jdmidwest Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 Smear and Fear! A political tactic used during election years to strike fear in the general public that our Great USA is in bad shape and they are going to be the ones to fix it. Usually accelerated by politicians, media, and general rebel rousers. How can anyone promote change unless they can strike an idea in the American public that something is wrong with the America we all love so well, The Greatest Country on Earth. But some want to change it…. Sorry I have been away this week and left this red letter post unanswered. I went camping on my homewaters this weekend and had a blast. I have been enjoying this fine weather each afternoon after work outside and not wasting time on the computer. But I am back and I moved this over to a new thread as it does not have any relevance to the Sarah Palin thread for the most part. I'll use Green to make my response On Sept 5, Chief Greybear responded to my quote. Smear and fear? What is wrong with the country today under the Bush Administration? We still have a low unemployment rate. Now at 6%. the highest in 5 years. Actually 5.8% At the time I posted, it was lower and the new report had not come out yet. Reason that it went up was due to kids going back to school and it normally happens this time of year. It has been on the decline since 2003. Here is a nice article http://www.miseryindex.us/URbyyear.asp If you look at that chart, seems like it goes down a lot on election years? The economy has slowed because of the election and higher fuel prices but we have used less and prices are going down. I don't know how you can blame the economy on the election. From past experience as a business owner that dealt with retail business owners one on one, consumer confidence drops each time that there is a major election due to all of the smear and fear. Some people are scared to buy things when they are uncertain of the future. This usually affects non essential items like autos, TV’s, computers, and other luxury items, you know, big dollar stuff we really don’t need anyway. Staple items are not usually affected. In 2000, some weak minded individuals forgot that we still had a President until the Supreme Court certified the election results and declared Bush the winner. In 2008, OPEC and Speculators hammered one of our staples hard and America bounced back by using less of the product. See how it is dropping now. I heard a report the other day that the Transportation Dept. may run out of money soon as we have been using less fuel and they have been collecting less taxes. The dollar is improving. Improving from record or near record lows. Still not anywhere near as strong as it was even in 2000. Why was the dollar week? Probably because we buy more overseas than we import or produce ourselves. Our country is fast becoming a service country instead of a manufacturing country. Why? We keep buying cheap foreign crap and killing our high quality American Products. Look at the labels next time you shop and see what country is weakening our dollar. Here is a nice article.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_public_debt" target=_blank"> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_public_debt The stock market has rebounded nicely too. We still have plenty of safe food to eat. Today maybe. In the last 7 years we have experienced a record number of food borne illness'. We still need to plug the hole in the border fence that lets all the illegals in with poor hygiene. We need to eat our own food products and quite buying Overseas Products from nasty third world countries like China. Read the label and buy AMERICAN, I do! We can still go to sleep at night without fear of attack from terrorists. Just the same as we have since Dec. 7, 1942. Sorry, I am not old enough to remember Pearl Harbor. I have lived thru the last part of the COLD WAR and know where to go in case of a nuclear attack. Thanks to Sept. 11 2001, I now know how to tape my windows and walk thru airport security barefoot. At least we know who are enemies are and have a well trained, well equipped, and battle hardened Military Force. I do feel safer knowing this. Sept 2001 I was a little worried where the next attack was going to come from. I feel EXTREMELY COMFORTABLE that current and future leadership under McCain will deal with any threat, not just sit down and try to talk to them. Crime rates are down. I think that may only be relevent to where you live. Violent crimes decreased 1.4% overall from 2006 to 2007 in the US as a whole. Here are the stats if you want to look at them. http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/ucr.htm"" target=_blank"> http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/ucr.htm Tax rates have been cut at my pay grade. Maybe. But I don't mind paying a little more in taxes. Why should my children have to spend a life time paying for what happened the last 8 years. If you have that much money, I’ll send you a bill next year and you can pay some of mine. I am sick and tired of Government Waste and I am going to vote for someone that is going to solve that problem with some other solution than taxing my butt another cent. The Democratic party wants to change that? Yes we do. -------------------- CHIEF GREYBEAR Yeah, sure you do!!! It’s a shame you don’t have someone running that knows how to do it. HOW IS HE GOING TO DO IT???? WHAT IS HIS GREAT PLAN? "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

jdmidwest Posted September 13, 2008 Author Posted September 13, 2008 Talk about media scare, how much did gas go up in your town today? Ours went up 60 cents in one raise. I just talked to my cousin 80 miles outside of Galveston and it was not even raining yet. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Danoinark Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Don't know about Mo, Ok or Texas, but Ark has a price gouging law. It was happening in the state yesterday. Apparently the Attorney General's hot line was busy. Last time this happened several oil companies and individual stations were charged with gouging and the fine is up to 10 thousand per incident. jdmidwest Posted September 16, 2008 Author Posted September 16, 2008 Our Attorney General, Jay Nixon is going after some of them. As of today gas ranges from $3.69 to $3.99 in the same town. There are reports that 10 refineries or rigs received some damage from Ike out of 388 facilities in the area. I think that is MINOR. But it seems like the oil companies are doing a little profit taking based on the fears of others.
