Fished from 3:30 to 7:30 pm with my boys. Not too much to report, caught around 8 with 2 keepers, 9 year old lost one that looked around 3.5, came unbuttoned at the boat. I did however, catch a 6lb. 4 oz. according to my digital scales. Very shallow. Caught all fish on crankbait. Forgot, broke a good off on a jig. Had fun and didn't rain too much. Good luck when you get to go.

Hey are you willing to share which crank bait you are throwing? Making it hit bottom or running in middle of water? THanks for the report.

I think nine year olds have special fishing rules where if you see the fish at the boat, then it counts as a catch. Called a quick catch and release for the health and benefit of the fish!

Sure Techo. The only reason I haven't shared the info is due to my brother in law finding the pattern and I didn't want to divulge info without him knowing about it. In the last week he has caught a 6-9 (I posted that last week) and a 6-4 the other afternoon. It is basically a square bill similar to the Rick Clunn 1.5 and 2.5. It is not a pattern producing a lot of fish, but it has been producing good ones. I was throwing mine on 10 lb. and he has been throwing his on 12 lb. Not hitting bottom the entire time, seem to be suspended in the water column chasing or waiting. Yesterday pulled up on one point, 9 year old caught a smallmouth, 14 year old caught a kentucky and I caught a keeper black. That was a main lake pocket point. Don't know why they are this shallow, but must be some generation going on and/or the Oxygen level is way better this year for September than usual. Color didn't seem to matter too much, shad colored was the ticket.

In reference to the boys, the 9 year old thinks it was a catch as do I, but you know how brothers are, the 14 year old is adament about it not counting. I think it is because younger brother was kicking his rear. Real funny thing was that fish was only in about 2 feet of water when my youngest hooked it. Boy was he excited. If the boys could throw a black spinnerbait and fish in the dark, I would have stayed through the evening hours.

Good luck when you get to go.

My 16 yr old and I also went out Saturday evening from about 430 til dark near Cape Fair. We saw very few boats on the water. Caught 10 bass on spinnerbaits shallow on points back in coves. Had 6 fish in a row shake off my spinnerbait, nothing big though. Only had 1 keeper out of the 10 we caught. Saw some topwater action but it was spotty and looked like small fish. We got hit with on and off rain all evening. I showed water temps about 79.

Got to watch them 9 yr olds, I had several whippings put on me while fishing with them. They seem to have that fishermans luck :D
