bikehikefish Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 keep in mind that this coming weekend is "Old Ironworks Days", with a $10 entry fee, even you are just fishing. I was there yesterday, caught a limit, but there were not many fish in there (not many fisherman either - which was great). Saw the usual poaching - A family with a bunch of kids kept limits for everyone in the family and left with a cooler a foot deep with cleaned trout. Someone complained to a park employee that the kids didn't really catch the fish, but since the employee didn't see it, he couldn't do much. Also saw a guy walking up from the river with a stringer full of sub-legal trout. Seems like it is ok to walk out of the park, catch up bunch, and then go back in.
DoveTail Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Too bad about the poaching by the various groups, I didn't realize it was a usual occurrence there, but I haven't fished there a whole lot either.
DoveTail Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 There was a photo posted of a guy with a stringer of bass and the MDC did track him down from what I understand. If the employee said something even though they couldn't prove it, that may make them realize people are watching and help end it?
Bman Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 All those violations really make my blood boil. Dove Tail, The incident involving the guy using minnows to fish the Trophy Trout waters was my post, and yes the MDC tracked him down. The following is an email from the agent that contacted me. Bruce, I apologize for the delay in getting back with you. I just arrivedback from vacation. I appreciate you taking notice of the violation andreporting it. The pictures are fabulous along with the information. The best way to report a wildlife violation is to report it to theOperation Game Thief Hotline at 1-800-392-1111 or call the localsheriff's department. I will share these pictures with the agents whowork the area to see if we can find out who the fisherman is. Weappreciate your assistance helping to catch violators. It is difficultto be at the right place at the right time when there is only one or twoagents in an entire county. Currently we do not have an agent in PhelpsCounty due to retirements and transfers. We hope to have an agentstationed there soon. Any violation reports we receive from PhelpsCounty will be investigated. If you see anymore violations please keepus informed.
