I hooked a 20+ inch rainbow in the lower section below the dams saturday afternoon on a #10 black leach pattern.

I lost the fish while netting it and unfortunately it swam away with a huge fly lodged in its mouth. The fly was possibly hook on the side.

Hopefully someone will see it, net it, and remove the fly. I looked for it with my net for a few minutes aftewards but there are just to many hiding places in that area.

nice fish, hate to see it starve to death....

I doubt that the fish will starve it will possibly remove the fly once it becomes an irritant by rubbing it off(much easier done if using barbless hooks ;) ), Hooks rust off. I have caught many fish with all sorts of flies/lures in the mouths, sides, or tails. All caught after the take so obviously they were not starving if still eating.

I have caught a brown in another river system that had a broken off large hook in it's mouth. It looked like it was not eating very well. A large head and small body. The mouth was bloody where the remaining hook was still in it. I pulled it out so hopefully the fish made a good recovery? Maybe someone will get this one to bite again.

I've caught a fish (albeit a largemouth) with a hook coming out of its anus before. So they won't starve.

that sounds downright unpleasant right there.

Cute animals taste better.

Just another reason I'm glad I'm not a fish. Yikes...
