strangercreek Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I hooked a 20+ inch rainbow in the lower section below the dams saturday afternoon on a #10 black leach pattern. I lost the fish while netting it and unfortunately it swam away with a huge fly lodged in its mouth. The fly was possibly hook on the side. Hopefully someone will see it, net it, and remove the fly. I looked for it with my net for a few minutes aftewards but there are just to many hiding places in that area. nice fish, hate to see it starve to death....
jjtroutbum Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I doubt that the fish will starve it will possibly remove the fly once it becomes an irritant by rubbing it off(much easier done if using barbless hooks ), Hooks rust off. I have caught many fish with all sorts of flies/lures in the mouths, sides, or tails. All caught after the take so obviously they were not starving if still eating. DoveTail Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I have caught a brown in another river system that had a broken off large hook in it's mouth. It looked like it was not eating very well. A large head and small body. The mouth was bloody where the remaining hook was still in it. I pulled it out so hopefully the fish made a good recovery? Maybe someone will get this one to bite again.
Members Poke 'Em Posted October 17, 2008 Members Posted October 17, 2008 I've caught a fish (albeit a largemouth) with a hook coming out of its anus before. So they won't starve.
Randall Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 that sounds downright unpleasant right there. Cute animals taste better.
