Chief Grey Bear Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Took a trip with my father and Dylan on Spring River in eastern Jasper County today. We didn't hit the water until 1100 and the bite started out really slow. It turned on pretty good starting about 300 and on fire from 400 to 530. Only two brownies caught today but no pics. They were in the 12 inch range though. Here is a pic of Dylan and good start to the day. Here is something you don't do or see every day. A nice river crappie caught on a tadpolly. Sweeeet! Here is a 4'14" behemouth my father caught. Dylan was holding it in this shot. Here is my father with one of the few pics he would let me take of him. This was has he was hauling her in. Here is another football hauled in by the man that taught me everything he knew about rivers and fishing them. I can't count the hours he spent teaching me not only how and where to fish in rivers but frogging, crawdading, getting leeches and just about anyting you could ever think to do on a river whether in the day light or by night with a Coleman gas lantern. I am doing my duty by passing this teaching to my son every chance I get. Tapolly's and Wiggle Wart's we on the menu today and worked outstandingly. fishinSWMO Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Thats awsome! Nothing better than fishing with your Dad and your son at the same time. I wish I could get my father to get out and do more fishing. Spring river was were I spent a lot of time growing up. Maybe a little farther west but Jasper county. Congrats to your Dad on a nice one. Buzz Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Yeah, it looks like you guys had a great day on the Spring. Some very nice fish, too. Buzz If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
fishinSWMO Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Chief, From Alba to highway 171. But mostly right around galesburg down to where north fork dumps in to spring. Did a lot of camping and setting lines for catfish. Lots of floats from quaker mill to 43 highway, or 43 to galesburg. Brings back good memories. We did a 2 day float once from above Carthage to galesburg, that was a lot of fun. I miss the camping on the river the most. Fishin Jeremy Dodson
Chief Grey Bear Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 I have always wanted to float the western end of Spring River, just never have. We may need to do that next summer.
