Members billynwtf Posted October 17, 2008 Members Posted October 17, 2008 Anyone been to the Spring River lately? I am itching to go been busy with the Boll Weevil program and I have deer on the brain. I think I will make a trip next week sometime just wondering what the fishing has been like. Take care and keep a tight line.
jdmidwest Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Been about 3 weeks ago, caught some nice ones at Lasseter's across from the motel in town. I made a report. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Members Yakfly Posted October 18, 2008 Members Posted October 18, 2008 No time for full report, but I did well last week at The bayou access. Water is running clear again. Hooked up 20+ in a couple of hours, all bows, all freshly stocked, except a couple that went in the 3+ lb class, brightly colored. Those 2 had been in the river a while. All caught on small (size 12) olive woolies.
Members jimrandolph Posted October 18, 2008 Members Posted October 18, 2008 Myself and 3 friends will be down there starting next Thursday for 3 days. I have been going there since I was a kid, but have never been there this late in the year and was wondering if the fishing was any different. I know most depends on the water level / clarity, but the canoers are still sparse given that it is cooler and after labor day...right? Also, I am not as "pure" as some; I usually seine minnows from the river for bait. However I use small, barbless circle hooks. Has anyone noticed a decline in the smallmouth numbers on the spring? It seems like year after year I catch fewer; even with using minnows.

Generally mid-week from November to May - fishing is very good and crowds are non-existent. Canoers are indeed more sparse after Labor day. Although on nice fall weekends there will be some, generally there either fishermen, or folks enjoying the nice weather and fall foilage - either way they are not the rowdies from summer. BTW, no worries about being pure here. It's all fishing.
