txspecks04 Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Anybody know how conditions are out that way? I am thinking about making a trip down on Saturday morning. I heard that there is supposed to be some rain tomorrow and Thursday, does rain usually have a really strong impact on RR? I am hoping that it won't be too much rain, maybe just enough to cloud up the water a little and make fishing easier on me... Any tips or input are greatly appreciated. Thanks tx
timsfly Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 River is in great shape, clear and good flow. I've been catching some nice fish on pheasant tails, with a micro egg dropper. I have been doing pretty good on small #16 or #18 copper johns, and I'm also fishing them with an egg dropper, my micro eggs are #18's or smaller. There are still some good caddis hatches in the afternoons, and blue wing olives are still hatching off in the morning and afternoons. If it stays warm, the beetles and hoppers are still good in the afternoons. I have been catching some nice fish on green, or light colored cracklebacks. Use 7X or 6X tippet, 7X will work best. The right amount of rain in the right place will cause R.R. to flood pretty quick, but the kind of rain they are calling for this week, shouldn't be enough to mess the river up, go to the home page on Ozark anglers and go to the water levels and you should be able to watch the gauge and see if the water level rises, good luck. txspecks04 Posted October 22, 2008 Author Posted October 22, 2008 Thanks for the tips there Tim! I will probably be out there with a couple of friends on Saturday morning if the weather doesn't mess things up.
timsfly Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 9/10s of an inch of rain yesterday and last night, the river didn't change any. I'm going to go down and fish this afternoon. I'm waiting on a delivery of pellets for this winter and then I'm leaving. Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
