Seth Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 Got setup in my climber near a thicket at 5pm. At 6pm I thought I heard some leaves crunching in the thicket. Next thing I knew there was an 8 pointer standing right below me almost at the base of my tree. The wind was blowing hard enough that he slipped in on me. He circled behind me and started going upwind of me so I figured he'd smell me. Well luckily he didn't and he stopped behind a big cedar to my left which allowed me to get the bow and get drawn back. He waited a few seconds and stepped forward and I gave a mouth grunt and smoked him. My Goldtip tipped with a Rage 3 blade went right through his heart and he only ran about 50 yards before piling up. We've got several bigger bucks on our game cams, but he was a lot better than any bucks I've taken so far with the bow so I am very happy with him. On the way out after I shot him, the deer were all over our food plot. There's was one dandy buck dogging a doe, two young bucks sparring, and several does and yearlings feeding. It was an awesome night to be hunting for sure. Here's a couple pictures.
slider Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 Seth a good looking buck it would have been hard to pass on him even if you knew you had bigger bucks out there. I killed my first deer of the season yesterday. I killed a small button buck, I have a weeks vacation coming up week after next and I'm hopeing fore a big boy then. Great job on your buck. slider DONT EVER GIVE UP MOSES WAS A BASKET CASE ONCE!
Seth Posted October 26, 2008 Author Posted October 26, 2008 My first one of the season was about like the one you got. There ain't much better eating than those young deer like that. The only problem is they only make a few meals before they are gone. Congrats on the deer.
Kansas Fly Fisher Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Good Buck Seth! I haven't had the opportunity to get out yet and these pictures isn't making it any easier on me. Congrats. John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
