Guest kevinkirk Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 NOW..first of all, dont get offended by the title. Its a story....and fit the times then, not necessarily now and its what they called themselves. We were staying in one of the cabin areas on Table Rock. I think down at this end. But I was about 10 yrs old or so and always went down to the dock to fish when dad was resting or it was too hot to go out in the little rental boat, etc. But anyway, there was a clan there from deep in the arkansas mtns and they were such nice ppl. Gave us a barbequed carp to eat......mmmmm....wel maybe not...but nice thot. They fished on the boat dock all day and the water was so clear then you could see their hooks below their bobbers. LIke glass. One day, we went down there and there were red and white popper lures sitting out there on the surface on each of their lines. They told us the man at the store said this is what they are biting on. They tossed them out and just let them sit all day. hah.. It was funny even to me as a kid. I can still see the hooks dangling down in that crystal clear water. Every time I went down there they said, We'uns is true hillbillies from the sticks.......I was so impressed. I can see that scene now and we would come and go in our little rental boat making waves that tossed those poppers back and forth. They were mad as they never did catch anything on those poppers. I have had the same luck with MIRACLE lures I was talked into also.hahahhah... Life was so simple then compared to now, the lake was wonderfully clean and uncrowded and we caught so many fish. Dad would set a few limb lines each night and we caught all the huge bluegill you could stand all day in the coves. So much fun.
oneshot Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 Back in the '60's I would say we was as close to being Hillbilly as you could get living off the land, making a living Logging,Hauling Firewood and Hay. But anyway we went down there Deer hunting. It was cold, here comes a kid riding on a Dirt Bike,no shoes. He was looking for some Hogs that had got out.Invited us up to the house for Lunch.Get up there Tar Paper One Room Shack, with a herd of kids. All I could think was they had us beat all the heck as far as Hillbillies. But I have room to talk if you see my place now.Well heck here is a pic Then ofcourse pic of my Baby Son Here is a pic of my Mom as a child with her family getting ready to go fishing with their fancy rig. Then there is me and my wife, this is an old pic of us just coming home from Church
