Looking for a good crankbait rod without throwing in the bank. Like to get no higher than $70.00, but could be comfortable with one even less. Any you guys have suggestions?

Check out BERKLEY LIGHTNING ROD'S. These rods has been apound for years, are proven performers, not expensive & overall very good quality. You should be able to find one for around $50.00 I would suggest you take a look @ their 6ft.6in. medium action rod. I think you will be impressed. I know BASS PRO carries them & have for years.

I have a few of the Lightning rods. I originally purchased them from the discount Bass Pro store for $15.00. I have a few friends that own no rods and used to have them in the back of the boat. A great rod for the price.

to be more specfic, what I am looking for a rod that is real flexible on the tip but quickly stiffens as it move toward the handle.

Does the Lightning and/or BPS crankin stick have those characteristics?

I can tell you from experience that the BERKLEY LIGHTNING ROD 6ft.6in. Medium Action has the action you have described. I cannot tell you that the BPS CRANKIN STICK does but, as it is a composite rod ( graphite/fiberglass ) it probably has more more flex in it's action.

Fishing rods are one of those personal preference things. I sort of respectfully disagree that the 6'6" medium action Lightning rod has that action. I think it is a little stiffer all of the way through. I don't think Nitroman is wrong, I just think it feels different to me. They are extremely awesome rods for the price.

I like to feel the fishing rod myself before buying it. Even different rods of the same make and model sometimes feel a bit different from each other. I have three of the green BPS rods and each feels a bit different. One has a pretty fast tip. They are all the same make, model and length.

Anyway....just my 3 cents worth.

I would also say that the Berkley Lighting rod would be a good choice. It is a IM-6 rod and has a parabolic action to it that is great for crankbaits. My choice would be a 7' med action. As far as the Bass Pro shop crankbait rods the ones in that price range that I have cast were to heavy and felt like they were tip heavy when casting.. not a rod that I would want to have to cast all day long.
