loo10 Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 My Dad passed away and left me a bunch of shotguns; mostly Remingtons and Ithaca's...12 & 20 gauge's. He also left me a Winchester Model 70 Boss .30-.06 deer rifle (beautiful gun) and a semi-auto Remington .22 with scope. I don't know what else. I and my sons do not hunt. How does a person sell them? I want to follow all the rules & laws. I'd also like to not get totally screwed on them. That said....any advise or help would be appreciated. Thanks. brittsnbirds Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Ithaca, I would like to hear what you have. Send me a message I will hook you up with some websites that can give you some value. I will bet you will be amazed. I have a friend that I work with at the PD that knows his guns. Would be happy to give him a list and let you know. Then you could double check the value on the sites. Gunbroker.com is one. Pat
jdmidwest Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I would get them appraised. The model 70 may be worth some money depending on the age and if the BOSS is factory or aftermarket. Ithaca is getting hard to find. Sales to individuals of long guns is usually safe, I always transfer handguns to a dealer. Don't know where you are, find a reputable gun shop and have them take a look. If you have enough other stuff, an estate auction usually brings a premium lately for guns. Take your time and don't rush in to anything. Since the Obama regime, guns are going up in value every day. jjtroutbum Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 sales from one individual to another do not require any background check or anything. Exactly what he said! Long gun or hand guns. Best way not to get ripped is to know there value and sell one at a time individually. Most gun shops will pay as little as possible for used guns. Any hand guns? If so let me know what ya got also. TroutBum4wt Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 You can take them to Bass Pro's Fine Gun Room in Springfield. They will appraise the guns for free. They are real gentlemen. I believe your bio said you're from Springfield. Cabela's in KC also has such a gun room. There are blue book-type gun reference books out there that give general value prices on condition and other stuff. You can find them at Barnes & Noble and other book stores. Those two sources can give you a good idea on the value and current market. Like the guys said, long guns are no problem when selling to another individual. I would for sure get the Winchester Model-70 appraised. Pre-'64 models are in a market of their own. Those guns are in the $900 to $1000+ range, depending on such things as caliber and condition. loo10 Posted December 17, 2008 Author Posted December 17, 2008 What's left, Rich? I haven't sold any yet. Pretty sure thats what I want to do but havent been in a big hurry. I hope to take an inventory, do a little homework over the winter, and then proceed to move them. My prayer is that someone gets them who appreciated them like my Dad did. bigredbirdfan Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Tell us a little more about the Ithaca shotguns when you are through with the homework. I would just love to shot birds with the 12 the rest of my life .
