you will probably have the stream to yourself, i think the word is out that ther are only 27 fish in the stream for C&R. they have all been caught and released about 6 dozen times by now. opening day was pretty successful for me but has been getting tougher by the day.

Wow its that bad would I be better off heading to Cardiac

I would.

I fished the park last weekend and caught a few, but thats it. (couple 20 inchers, no pics I was by myself) I had to force feed them to bite, but eventually they did. There are some big fish in the park that I spotted, but everything is above the cable where we can't fish. No joke I spotted at least an 8 lb rainbow laying up against the bank. Also spotted a 10lb plus, couldn't tell if it was a brown or rainbow, but it was huge!!

I tried fishing for the smaller fish when I got bored, but they had lock jaw. Does anyone know if they are actually going to stock some fish down there this year?

With the expansion of the "Urban Winter Trout", I think that all of the hatcheries are tapped out. I'm not sure how that effects Meramac. Is their hatchery state operated? I read in the Sedalia paper, that the State purchased fish from a private hatchery near West Plains, to stock Liberty Park and other areas north. I also heard, through the grapevine, that they had purchased trout from Rockbridge. Prior to the mandatory 4 fish limit, there was alot of talk about expanding the state's coldwater hatcheries in all of the parks. The only expansion that I know about, is the new brown trout facility at Branson. You say that Meramac is down on numbers this year, you can include Bssp and Montauk as well.

Did you see the big bow at cardiac or was it in the park, I would be happy to fish cardiac but I am taking my brother with me and he looses interest if he doesn't catch fish. Has anyone been fished cardiac lately.

I went down on wednesday 11/19 and absolutely tore them up all day with only a few others around. Went back this past Sunday and only caught two, and they were outside the park. I figure that early in the week they still remember being caught over the weekend. I'll head back down next wednesday and test my theory.

Just for a heads up...In my opinion fishing cardiac this time of year is a waste of time. Too cold, gin clear water, no springs. I would stay between Maramec Springs and Dry Fork at the furthest. This time of year nature calls them upstream in more ways than one.

My humble opinion.

Bman - I agree - last two trips to Cardiac this fall resulted in 0 fish.

...but, as watched some giggers floating down the river, they remarked that they were seeing trout. Assuming they can tell the difference between trout and other fish, seems like there are still some fish there, but they must have lock-jaw.

bikehikefish, When you get to the river from cardiac, the big riffle that dumps into a faily good hole of water with a big backwater...you ever notice corn husks/corn stalks floating in the backwater?
