Tightline Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 We headed for Stockton at 5:30 this mourning in hopes of catching some whites and maybe lucking into some wallys. We put in at Roark and went up stream, fished all the usual white bass flats and points which took almost all morning and caught 3.I have struggled the last 2 years to find the big schools of whites up there,I know they are there, somewhere. I can say one thing, the bass fishing is going to great in the years to come,we caught lots of bass ,3 keepers, all on maribou jigs and in line spinners.Maybe if we had tied on some big spinner baits or huge crank baits we would have caught more whites. My brother-in-law kept an 17 incher,it had one eye completely covered in fungus and it had started on the other,it would have surely died. We were about to leave when we decided to fish one of those marked brush piles (which I have never had any luck on). First cast,a 13 inch crappie. We caught 20 crappie with 11 of those being real nice 10 to 13 inch keepers. Made my wife happy, she eats crappie fillets like they are potato chips. We used white jigs, gray jigs, black and chartreuse tube jigs,1/8 and 1/16. Not a great day but a decent one,it was good to be out even if it was a little chilly.
Tightline Posted November 29, 2008 Author Posted November 29, 2008 Your probably right about the wind Dutch, but sometimes you got to go when you can go and in certain areas there was pretty good wave wash on the points and flats.I just wish we would have tried the crappie earlier! Thanks for your input.
