flyfishmaster Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I just saw this product out on Midcurrent, it is a fly reel made by Psaros that does not have a center axis or hub. After reading the info on it I still don't understand how the drag systems works. Here is the site: Psaros site click here What do you think of this thing? It looks a bit weird to me... Gavin Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 It looks like the spool rotates on those rollers inside of a circular cage....not sure how the drag would be applied, palming I suppse..Nice concept but I'd be interested to see how it performs with a little grit or ice in it.
Members TroutSchool Posted December 10, 2008 Members Posted December 10, 2008 I visited w/ Georgios Psaros in Stockholm last winter. He was very patient and forthcomming with his reel concept. The drag is designed to be manipulated with your fingers- sort of like palming the rim, only in this case you never touch the rim, instead you apply pressure to the rollers. He explained the purpose of the reel is to persue trout and thus his reel drag is an appropriate measure, all things considered. Needless to say, I came home with one and have used it on my local stream. It has performed flawlessly and is a plesure to own- it is quite a showpiece! For a little background about the reel and the man himself read this. Enjoy.
