Buzz and I took a float trip today. With a day that temps were to reach into the 60's, in December, we thought we better do some type of fishing. So we headed off for one of our favorite streams in Mac County. We weren't disapointed either. Though it was very windy today, as Buzz said, I think the wind actually helped us today.

Buzz had a lead on me most of the day. I was always about 2 or 3 fish behind. Then we hit this one hole and we caught the heck out of them. He at one time cauaght three in as many cast. We caught at least 10 or 12 from that spot. We also so had a double on. How cool is it to do that in December!

But luck was about to change for me. As you can see from the pic below, I started catching them two at a time. They must have tied on the feeding bags from about 12:00 to 4:00. There wasn't any of the tap, tap, tap stuff either. It was BAM! Fish On! It was a great day. Buzz ended up with 17 and I with 27.

Today was far and away the best smallmouth day I've had in a very long time. Those fish hammered us all day long. We did catch some largemouth, maybe 10, but the majority were nice hard fighting brownies. They were jumping all over themselves to get at my grub for a long time, then they decided they wanted a bigger meal and thats when Chief kicked my butt. Fun day. I wouldn't have rather been anywhere else.

The wind blew so hard that it would literally stop the canoe and push it back upstream. With the overcast sky and the wind putting a chop on the water it made for perfect conditions. As clear as the creek was I don't think we would have caught nearly as many fish.

Also we were fortunate to be able to watch several eagles most of the day. At one time we counted 10 birds in the air. Very cool.

If fishing was easy it would be called catching.

Man... you guys got my blood runnin' now! Good thing with these wind chills up here. I haven't fished Indian Creek but a friend of mine raves about it. My Dad got me started on rivers when I was a kid down on the Big Sugar. We always camped at a place called Cole's Hole if I remember right.

Glad you guys did well and great pics. Wished I could get down there more often... if only my private jet was up and runnin' ! ;) Looking forward to wetting a line with ya in the future... anybody who wears a Mizzou cap is o.k. in my book! :D

Great report! Glad to here you guys got into them so well. Looking back over the last 36 hours it is almost like they new something was coming. Nature is amazing like that, the fish, the deer, the birds they all know.

Im not a Cardinals fan, but I am a Cardinal. If you know me you know what that means.

KC- When you get down here next spring, we are gonna put you on some fishing you won't soon forget. Sharpen those hooks!

redbird- I know exactly what you're thinking. I think you are right too. Usually something like this happens during the week when I can't get to them. But we got them this time! And while I was down there doing that, my son went out back and shot his first rabbit with a pellet gun. It is in the freezer waiting on some company. Maybe next weekend!

Thanks Chief and Buzz for the report and pics. Where'd you guys put in/take out? I used to fish Indian there at Anderson some 25 odd years ago. Grandma S lived there and we'd go down to the swimmin hole behind the post office. I would innertube my way down a mile or two catching goggle eye and smallies. Dad and I would seine crawdads for bait there at the spring near the train overpass on old 71. Drank the spring water too as the sulphur water in town was terrible! Ah what fun that was. After a looong 25 yr break we're back to camping with my kids near Pineville on Big Sugar at Mac's Big Rock Park. Got a pic here on my desk of my grinning son holding up his first Sugar creek smallie last summer! Can't wait to get back down there. Might have to do a float on Indian sometime too this spring.

Well, kbs, our put in and take out spots don't have any names that I know of as they are just a couple of spots along a dirt road. Heck, I don't even know the name of the dirt road. LOL!

Hey come on down sometime and lets do some fishing!
