Members troller
I've noticed alot of postings referring to the swimmin minnow. It looks as though its used extensively in the Ozarks. Can anyone give me a quick primer on how its rigged and fished. Sounds as though its good for White bass and Crappies
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 21, 2006 Root Admin Share Posted March 21, 2006 I used to have images of them but they were on another server and I think it's gone. They come in 2.5 and 3 inch. They're shaped like a minnow with a thin curley tail. Come in dozens of colors. Made in Florida so they're not an ozarkian thing at all but they are hard to find for some reason. Not sure why others haven't tried to copy them- almost the same as a grub-curley tail but slimmer. Thread them thru the head/body on a jig head- simple. Members markg
I came down to Table Rock last year and found the swimming minnows at Fin & Feathers bait shop, just south of Bass Pro. They have a website and are cheaper to order than to pick up. The majority of listings used last year were in smoke . I used junebug/chartruess and did great. Coming back next week and hope this front doesn't shut the crappie down.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 21, 2006 Root Admin Share Posted March 21, 2006 If you get them- get smoke, chartruese, purple and electric blue. Then olive, pearl, motor oil and more smoke.

Fishing Buddy Don House Posted March 21, 2006 Fishing Buddy Share Posted March 21, 2006 Guy's we use them for Bass and Crappie on the rock. They work great in the spring.. I love to use Smoke, motor oil, and silver flake. Swim these just like you would a crappie jig, slow and bounce them off the bottom. The Bass just can't take it, even better on a windy day. Fin and Feather for local ones and on the internet you can get a large selection of colors from Bobby Garland Bait company.. Good Fishing Capt. Members Wildside88
When you are bumping them off of the bottom for White Bass do you run these weedless, or do you just run a jig head hook through with hook sticking out of side? Thanks
Fishing Buddy Don House Posted March 21, 2006 Fishing Buddy Share Posted March 21, 2006 WildSide88, Just with a jig head hook exposed, you get hung every now and then but not really much, I run the hook to where it comes out the back at the top that helps alot.. Members markg
I rig mine the same as Don. Hook out the back. I used 1/32 in a round or minnow head, casting towards the bank while I sat in 12-14 foot of water. I would get the strike about half way back in or as it went by the first trees at about 4-6 feet. This was mid April last year. If no strikes then change to 1/16 to get deeper.
