Members fisher19 Posted December 18, 2008 Members Posted December 18, 2008 A buddy and I are heading down tomorrow afternoon. Was wondering if anybody had any sugestions on what to use. We might fish with jigs down in the fall creek area and was wondering what depth would be the best. And even a suggestion on what size jigs. Who knows we might just leave the boat on the trailer and just fish up by the dam. Any sugestions is appricated. Thanks!
twosets Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Howdy Phil did this video for spin fishing with jigs. You can use micro jigs under a float if you intend to use fly rods. Close to the bottom is where you want to fish them. Stop at lilly's, they can sell you what you need and may have further advice. Good luck. http://ozarkanglers.com/index.php?option=c...5&Itemid=48 "This is not Nam. This is bowling. There are rules."
Members fisher19 Posted December 18, 2008 Author Members Posted December 18, 2008 Thanks twosets for the advice. We'll try and stop by. I saw phil's video awhile ago and forgot all about it thanks for the reminder. Never tried a jig on a flyrod i'll give it a try.
wily Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 look up in the articles section -- phil and bill have a post in it that deals specifically with the jig and fly method. i don't use a fly rod. i use a float n fly rod from bass pro. 8 foot micro-lite. also doubles as a good crappie rod. i think you could use any rod, but the longer rod helps with casting and for staying in contact with the float. use a carrot float...run the stop thru from the top and put a bb size split shot just under the float. you can get away with 4 lb, but you'll probably catch more if you run 4 lb test to a swivel and 2 lb underneath. use a micro-jig or similar small jig...or a bead head you really need to stay in contact with the float, and watch it for subtle movements. if it wobbles, or stops...it's probably a fish. sometimes they'll take it all the way under but usually it's subtle.
