create a lot of jobs, much like the "New Deal" in the past.

Well the truth is they were temporary jobs that did nothing to create permanent jobs. The proposal to rebuild the infrastructure will be much the same, except that the unions will gain a lot of temporary benefit and come out much stronger, and large contractors will be enriched.

I never owned an assault rifle, but I did own an M1 carbine for a period of time and it was fun for awhile. For me the bottom line is simple, guns don't create a risk in and of themselves, but by there use. In the same line, punish misuse, ban when there is no reasonable safe use. Explosives have no realistic recreational use, guns do.

After early 2009 there will be little opposition that can be mounted against anything the government wants, so look out, big changes coming.

Explosives have no realistic recreational use? I'll agree that they should not be accessable but boy do I like blowing crap up every now and then and i consider that recreational. I'll just stick with the legal fireworks for now tho. :D

Most of my hunting has been with shotguns, (no rifle hunting allowed in Illinois for deer).

Why is this? Just got back from my duck hunting trip in So. Il and there might be as many deer as people there.

Are handguns also illegal in IL? My hunting buddy was worried because he has MO Conceal and Carry and forgot to leave his handguns at home.

I am not really sure, probably because it is flat and treeless and hi power bullets carry too far. It has nothing to do with the amount of deer. It has been that way for as long as I can remember.

CCW is not honored in IL, one of the worst states in the nation close to us. I don't know if you can carry one into IL without being a resident. IL residents have to carry a handgun in a locked case out of the passenger compartment. Your only defense may be the peaceful journey thru their state clause, it may work.

Hey Dano I suggest a remmenton 870 express marine mag.

Thanks Soggy, I have looked at those and are nice. Dano

Dano if you want something to sit in the corner until needed, consider buying a good used pump and having the barrel shortened.

Good idea Wayne...something to sure consider. I have a couple shot guns but none that I would want to cut. But a good used one is a great idea.

When I think of explosives I think of the stuff we used in the service. It would be hard to blow up stuff with it and not damage something you didn't want to.

I purchased a nice used Mossberg 500 Mariner from the shop last spring. It was one of several that a local police force turned in on trade. Works great, great boat gun. Sits in corner with buckshot and slugs in it waiting for action.

Because of the way my weekend went, I was in and out of the Ozark Wal-Mart several times this weekend, and I noticed that each time I was in line there was someone with a rifle/shotgun soft case sticking out of their cart. In one case, the gentleman was buying three. Now, I'm not Columbo, but it doesn't take much thinking to infer that these cases are needed for a new firearms received for Christmas. In fact, I know of several people who bought the first gun they've ever owned because of current "political trends."
