jdmidwest Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 I just ran across this on Ebay, thought about all of you sitting out there with Christmas money burning a hole in your pockets. Solid rock pedestal bases for your vice, they look pretty nice. Better than carrying around a chunk of steel. Granitefly Pedestal Bases. Danoinark Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Well, another one of those, "Why didn't I think of that" moments... A great idea. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
timsfly Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 I had a friend do the same thing with a flat river rock he found on Flat creek, it already had a hole, he put a tube that would hold a 3/8" stem and a set screw, some JB weld I belive to hold the tube in place and he leveled the thing off with a belt sander, I think he put the little rubber taps on it to keep it from scratching the tapbel it sat on his living room coffee table for a long time, I wonder if he still has it, it looked pretty good for something he made in about 3 hrs. Problem was it weighed about 20lbs, but your vise didn't move. Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
jdmidwest Posted December 26, 2008 Author Posted December 26, 2008 With a little time and some tools, you could turn a rock from your Homewater's into a base. Problem is around here most are made out of Sandstone and too brittle.... "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

Warlock Take it to someplace that sells and installs granite counter tops or take it to a brick plant. Both should have diamond drill bits for drilling holes. Offer to pay though as diamond drill bits are expensive and don't last long. Dave
