duckydoty Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 My wife was working and my brother and his wife were in town so I suggested checking out RR. They had never fished there before so we headed over that way. Started fishing around 11 am and only fished for a couple of hours. Threw nothing but 5 inch T&A Rainbow patterns by Kelly Galloup. I caught about 6 fish with the largest being around 7 pounds. Did have a couple of really big boys grab ahold of the fly and either break off the 5x tippet or just not grab the hook part of the fly. My brother caught a few with the largest being around 3 1/2 pounds. Great day for fishing! It was kind of crowded but you could still get a place to fish. Ran into Flysmallie and his daughter down there. They were just starting as we were getting ready to leave. Been fishing 3 times since the start of the New Year now. Pretty cool! timsfly Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 That is some good fishing for a few hrs. I did well on a big bunny bug today, I only have a couple of those T&A's and I only use them with 4X tippet, don't want to lose one. I haven't had that good a luck with the ones I'm tying. I'm still doing well on eggs and bunny bugs. Glad your getting bit of fishing in. I usually do really good with them down there. It is exciting fishing for sure! A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners

YOU WENT FISHING WITHOUT ME???? atta boy! We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. The two best times to go fishing? When it is raining and when it is not.

Sounds like a very good few hours Ducky. I also made it down yesterday. I had a good time fishing the C& R area until about 1:00pm. I managed 1 really nice male that measured 21" or 22". Any Idea what he might have weighed????? I never have been able to judge trout. He was heavy, my only guess would be between 4 and 5 lbs. I caught him on a Zebra Midge with a scud dropper. It took about 10 mins. to bring him to the net. Qiute a fighter. I also looked for flysmallie but couldn't find him. Maybe next time. Can someone tell me what a T&A is???? I'm not familiar with that fly. Buzz If fishing was easy it would be called catching.

Buzz Hey Buzz, there's a fairly reliable formula to judge the weight of a trout....Length X Girth X Girth / 800....I've written it on my flybox so I can remember it....so if your fish was 22" and say had a 12" girth that's 22 X 12 X 12 = 3168....3168 / 800 = 3.96 lbs. Good catch!
