trizkid Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 A buddy and I are thinking about heading down sometime this week....both are pretty new to fly fishing at the spring....just wondering what flies we would have our best luck with ........thankx.. TrIzzout
TroutFearMe Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I like to use Sanjuan worms, salt and pepper colored scuds, and anything that is small. When are you guys planning on heading down there I too was also thinking about heading down to fish cardiac.
bikehikefish Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Cracklebacks - size 12 seemed to outfish 10s. We were at the park today and did ok. Best part of the day was the 7 bald eagles in the field between the road and the campground.
TroutFearMe Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I would second the bald eagles at the park being pretty cool. If you get there when they open the gates they tend to congregrate right there at the field. I have seen MDC take a bucket of dead fish out to the field and the eagles just sworm in on it.
trizkid Posted January 5, 2009 Author Posted January 5, 2009 i have another question....do i need a trout stamp on my fishing lic to fish out of the park even if i am not harvesting? TrIzzout
bikehikefish Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 No, you do not need the trout permit to fish the trophy management area unless you want to possess trout in that area. But you need it if you fish the park during the winter catch and release season.
Members CKennedy Posted January 6, 2009 Members Posted January 6, 2009 I fished yesterday and had pretty good luck stripping cracklebacks. The water was up and pretty murky. I did not have much luck with San Juan worms, but normally I would definitely suggest these if the water clears up. The fish seem to be in pods and I would be able to catch a couple and then have to move on and then come back to it later. Hope this helps and good luck!
trizkid Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 so i need a trout permit to fish in and out of the park during c&R? TrIzzout
duckydoty Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I do know that you need a trout stamp to fish in the parks during catch and release season. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners

I would try egg patterns (glo balls) small ones. Maybe a zebra midge dropper, again small like #20. Good luck. The only good line is a tight line
