Rough Day On The Rock

Flippin

Recommended Posts

Yesterday was a discouraging day. Fished out of Cape Fair from 9-1 and caught a short KY. I threw grub, jig, stickbait and crank with no success. It was nice day to be out but the fish thought otherwise.

Did anyone else have any luck out there?

Same for me flippin. Fished point 5 for 4 hours. One hit on a deep bite. That was it. Fished jerkbaits, crankbaits, grubbed the big docks, even went out and spooned.

Glad to hear you guys struggled, too. Just kidding, of course. Donna and I put in at SK bridge at 8:30 a.m. and fished til dark. Covered some awfully good spots — went down as far as the little deep cuts just below Big Creek and up as far as Sweetwater in the Kings. Stayed on the windy side all day, hitting bluff ends, chunk rock and ledge rock banks and even some pea gravel points. Ended up with two nice keeper largemouths — one about 2.5 on a jerk bait and the other 3.5 on a crank bait — and one short on the jerk bait. Drug a fb jig a lot and to my knowledge, I never got bit on it. Donna missed a couple. Never caught a KY or brown fish all day. All in all, a humbling experience.

We put in at SK saturday about 8 am and stayed within 3 miles of the bridge. Had 5 fish with 4 being keepers before 9:30. Maybe 10 lbs total. After the fog lifted, not a single fish. Right place at the right time as they all came in one area and all on 3/4 oz jigs, 35+ feet.

Sorry I am late with this, but I also fished on Friday, fished same areas as Thursday and could only muster about 7 fish with one keeper. Spoon fish were gone or at least not up feeding and fb jig fish did not bite nearly as well. Only thing different on Fri. from Thur. was wind was from NE on Fri. and West on Thur. Maybe that had something to do with it. Sorry I did not post earlier.

Champ188 would never fail to give me credit, but just wanted to clarify that the 3.5 LM was NOT one of the ones I missed. LOL Cranking a chunk rock bank and barely knew I had a fish. Just felt like the crankbait was pulling more water. Other than that, only a couple more bonafide bites and didn't hook those. One of the toughest days I've ever seen on TR. On the bright side, I got to spend a full (nice) day on the water with my best friend and didn't look like the Michelin tire man from 14 layers of clothes. :D

Better luck next time ... I hope.

Sorry to hear you all struggled. We had a great day on Sat. 25 keepers and about 40 fish total. Best 5 - 20.78. Most came on a dropshot off of a couple of spots. We fished a jerkbait and crankbait for a while and caught a few smaller fish bt the bite just wasn't there. Tried a spoon and grub deep but they would only hit a drop shot with a Chompers Plum worm. The bite was tough, you had to pay close attention, the fish were swimming up with the bait and putting a small amount of slack in your line.
