Members tgard27 Posted January 6, 2009 Members Posted January 6, 2009 Im tying flies trying to kill time until my next trip to Cranewhich got me wondering if anyone has used a sein net at Crane Creek. I was wondering as to what insects are living on the bottom. I would love it if anyone would like to share some info. Travis
duckydoty Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I have not seined there but have rolled a few rocks. I found lots of small stone flies and mayfly nymphs. Lots of crawdads in there also. Good flies to tie are bead head pheasant tails, bead head hairs ears, stone flies, san juan worms and small crawdad imitations like the rusty sparrow. Members B MOELLER Posted January 6, 2009 Members Posted January 6, 2009 what Doty says. One thing that works for me there is to use a long leader and if you use an indicator put it closer to the end of your fly line. You are fishing for wild trout not stockers. I have seen guys down there put their indicator three feet above the fly and only catch small fish if any. Not saying you do this, but throwing it out there. I mostly cast tungsten weighted nymphs there to get on the bottom. Been awhile since I've visited this board much less been trout fishing. Haven't been since last spring. I'm thinking maybe this weekend or in the near future heading down to crane. Love that place.
