That was in 95. dont know as if they'd let me across the border now. Probing the depths, driving lunkers from their homes!
KCRIVERRAT
Canadien Fly-In Fishing. Two great gals and Noel the pilot came out twice to take care of us. Great lakes, great fast water fishing through the portages (walleye & pike). Also a plus... they allow 150# of gear. Too far north for smallies. We were north of Woodland Caribou Provencial (sp?) Park, out of Red Lake. There were four of us and we all had our own boat for the week. HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
Jason Essary
Going back this summer to White Dog lake on the Winnepeg River system in Ontario. kcrcamp.com. Great place and wonderful people. Ive been going since i was 15. this should be my 8th trip. Never had a bad trip. Walleyes and Northers with a few smallies inbetween. If anyones interested, they ought to look them up. Great small time place where everything is personable and down to earth. Gavin
Spent Labor Day on the Grand River near Fergus Ontario a couple years ago......Had a blast chasing brown trout on the Grand, and chased smallies and musky on the fly on the Saugeen..The evening Hex on the Saugeen made the trip...Gotta love catching chunky northern smallmouth on dry flies. Cheers.
Paola Cat
I've made the trip to Huber's Lone Pine fishing lodge on the Wabigoon/Dinorwic Lake Chain in Northwest Ontario, Canada. It's real close to the town of Dryden, Ontario and is a full day's drive from the KC area. Great fishing for trophy northerns (36"+) and some real nice SMBs. Not knowing any better, my buddy and I brought our bass fishing gear with us and fished some of the nastiest weed infested waters and did real well on large northerns and a few muskies while the rest of the group bounced around in the open water fishing for walleyes and yellow perch. We also caught some large SMBs in the 20" range on husky jerks and wiggle warts near and on exposed rock piles. The cabin accomodations were great and the food was nothing short of fantastic. We did the American plan and were competely satisifed. The wildlife viewing was great and we saw black bears and moose. The carniverous airforce (deer flies and mosquitos) were tough at times but I'd totally recommend. PC Cheers. PC
rps
This probably won't help anyone book a trip, but my favorite place in Canada was the place my father took me when I was ten or eleven. It was on Rainy Lake/River and we caught smallmouth, walleye, northern, and I lost a muskie - all from an aluminium semi V with a 18 hp Evinrude. The place had guides and ours was a native from the reservation called Charlie Fisher. Bottom line - I don't think it matters where nearly so much as it matters with whom. rps
trout fanatic
Back in the early 60's I used to accompany some friends to a lake about 250 miles north of toronto (as I recall) Called Lake Wahwashkesh. Crystal clear water and tons of fish-walleyes, smallmouth rock bass and yellow perch not to mention northern pike and lake trout. Good times
msamatt
Quetico Provinicial Park in N.W. Ontario. I've only been twice and I plan on going back as often as I can for as long as I can. You get the thrill of a physical wilderness adventure and you can catch huge smallies, walleye, nothern, and lake trout. I'm hooked. The upside: beautiful wilderness canadian shield lakes, plenty of solitdue (depending on where you plan to travel in the park), and potentially spectacular fishing. The downside: millions of mosquitoes when you're the larges mammal in the vicinity, wind and waves. I experienced the joy of paddling through three foot rollers last summer. I'm going back but I won't do that again if I can avoid it. Walleyes were the main target, but lots of big Northern pike, smallies, and muskies too. This is a big body of water (impondment) so guides are a good option, but certainly not necessary, especially during peak times. Shore lunch is the best.
