The last two CPA tournaments last year (championship at LOZ and fall tournament at TR), we were "privileged" to share the lake with the Stren Series guys. Time for the Heartland guys to have some fun.

Yea, me too. Too bad FLW wasn't required to take dates of March 14,15,16,and17 instead of the ones they got. I think it kinda sucks for the Heartland guys.

GETFISHED !!!

FLW schedule was out in August, right after the Forrest Wood Cup, not sure about Heartland.

Get fished why would FLW run their tournament Sat - Tues? Just like BASS they always run Thurs - Sun.

In any event the fish will be beat up by the time Heartland shows up.

Yes it seems like to enjoy our passion we must "beat up" the fish. (just kidding). I realize FLW is not going to fish Sat. thru Tues. and don't expect them to. I'm just assuming Heartland requested the permits/dates before FLW. Maybe not. It doesn't make any sense for Heartland to request the same weekend that FLW already has been given.

If I were going to conduct a tourney on the scale of a Heartland I would not request the same weekend as an event the size of an FLW tourney on the same lake. Especially if I knew they were having two competition days directly prior to my first day.

This may be the result of designation by whoever approves the permits and have nothing to do with the tourney circuit managers, Heartland or FLW.

It seems like there are two other reasons for separate weekends besides the legitimate reasons Heartland may have.

1) Stimilus to the local economy over separate weekends would in my opinion be greater overall. This will prove itself in the possibility the events are cancelled for safety/weather reasons. I realize this is not likely to happen, but if it did chances are good that at least one event would produce some economic benefit for the community.

2) Safety should always be given the opportunity to err on the side of caution and never be put on the back burner.

I realize the lake is capable probably of handling two events of this size simultaneously but is it really necessary?

Then last but not least is the possibility that FLW might have requested this date in their own self interest with knowledge that Heartland was already authorized on this date. I'm not saying this is what happened, only perusing a list of maybes.

This is not a possibility that is easy to accept yet it is a possibility nonetheless. I think it is generally accepted that in a four day tourney the heaviest weighins on average are the first two days so based on that FLW would not need to be threatened by Heartland coming in on FLW's third day.

These are just my opinions however permeated with assumptions they may be and you know what they say about assumptions.

I will be fishing Heartland and really I hope to be in that attitude of gratitude because I have much to be thankful for.

Hey Steve,

Not trying to ruffle any feathers......

I do know the FLW made their intentions of having a tour event in mid-March 09 back in 2007 when they signed the contract with the Branson Convention and Visitor Bureau for last fall's Stren event. Pretty sure they would have contacted the Water Patrol and gotten their Regatta Permit at that time. National tours generally work on schedules, permits, and etc 16 - 24 months out. Regional and local circuits tend to work 8 to 12 months out. I don't know who got their permit first but I would guess it was FLW.

The Water Patrol handles the Regatta Permits for tournaments on the lake, they look at the number of vessels on the lake not the impact to the fishery. Table Rock can handle 300 tournament rigs easily and actually over the weekend it will only be around 112 if Heartland draws 100 (Final 12 fish the w/e in an FLW Tour event). It is the tournament organizations responsibility to catch schedule conflicts not the Water Patrol.

I know everyone is feeling for the Heartland guys but look at it from the other side:

There will be 200 guys that are trying to make their living fishing (in the days of sponsor cut backs) competing with local guys pre fishing for a w/e tournament. How many times will a guy close to making the cut or cashing a check have to change plans or spots through out the day because there is a local pre fishing on spot he was counting on? It's part of fishing a national tour but look at their side of things as well.

IF, it's a big if, one of the two were to move I would think it would be easier to move Heartland than a FLW, Heartland had to re-schedule last year due to weather and I'm sure the anglers would understand.

Again, I don't know who came first FLW or Heartland, I would assume it was FLW but don't know. If that is the case maybe Heartland didn't know about the FLW event when they set their schedule.

Anyway, hope Heartland has a great turnout and everyone fishing it enjoys themselves.

Good Luck,

EP

FLW will have made their cut down to 12 boats by the weekend... But the fish will have seen a lot of baits by then. Down here on Beaver it is a circus when those guys come to town, at least you guys have a little bit more water up there to try and get away from them... The tourneys are fun to watch on TV but not so fun when they come fish your lake

Now you know our problem up here at LOTO... :D

Things like that are one of the reasons that, when the water temps are 50 or above (and the air temps are bearable), I try to fish at night mostly. Avoid the day circus of too many other fishermen-- not to mention the player boats and jet skis. ;)

Hey Eric, good info! Thanks. Lost all my feathers a long time ago so not to worry. Good discussion

I write with no intention to insult or denigrate anyone. However, why is anyone "making a living" fishing in tournaments? Why is a tournament schedule vital to either those who will fish or those who will pickup afterwards?

I have always admired and respected guides and those amateurs who learned a body of water. I have always not understood those who fish in competitions. Please realize that what I say does NOT mean the people who compete are unskilled, unethical, or unlikeable. I only mean I cannot connect emotionally and I cannot understand intellectually.

Without meaning to belittle those who fish for dollars, can anyone explain fishing tournaments to me?
