strangercreek Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 This is cool. I just finished reading this book. I like this author. He is from West Plains I think. The movie should be interesting. They are going to do some shooting in Springfield and look to fill the main role with an actress from Missouri for authenticity. http://www.ky3.com/news/local/37632059.html He has a few other novels based in the Ozarks as well (Death of Sweet Mister, Give us a Kiss, Tomato Red). The movie "Ride with the Devil" was based on one of his novels also. I think it is an Ark/Mo border area civil war story (I've haven't see or read it). The Novel is a different name though.
DD'sMC Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Sure wish it was about the pristine Ozarks most of us know and love, unfortunately, from what I can tell, it's about the epidemic that is widespread throughout the entire country--meth addicts, and their teenage children's challenges to overcome their predetermined heritage. We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. The two best times to go fishing? When it is raining and when it is not.

You are right. At least it is about an interesting place. I would like to read more stories about fishing, adventure, etc, but I think this is a great book. I practically read it in one sitting (short novel). Right after that I read Andy Savage of Roaring River. Here is a little about where the author is coming from. http://www.ozarksmagazine.com/index.html?p=250

I'd like to read the book, and some of his others as well. Usually, "the book is better than the movie". We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. rps Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Great review. I look forward to the books. Thank you for the post.
