Members Okiedog Posted January 30, 2009 Members Posted January 30, 2009 I saw on the news where some of the Marinas suffered major damage. Anyone know any specifics?? Particularly about Cricket Creek? There main docks are pretty old, I wouldnt be suprised if they are on the bottom of the lake. Anywhere to find out? The phones arent ringing so I am assuming that there are no phonelines up. What a disaster. thanks
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 30, 2009 Root Admin Posted January 30, 2009 It'll take someone driving out and taking a look... State Park had several dock collapse I heard. No other word.
focused fishing Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Not sure about the lower end other than what has been on the local news (State Park). Talked to some friends that have a house boat in a dock in Shell Knob and the dock was still up right but sitting low in the water with all the extra weight. They felt it would be back to normal by this evening with amount of melting taking place. Phil take care on that drive I hear the roads are still dicey in the Cricket Creek area. EP Sorry- I'm not driving down there... too much going on here. I just meant it was going to take someone seeing it and reporting back cause I doubt you'll see anything on the news. How many docks did State Park lose? Good time to go in the dock building business!
Members Okiedog Posted January 30, 2009 Author Members Posted January 30, 2009 thanks fellas, let me know if you hear anything
focused fishing Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Not sure how many wer lost but it looked like quite a bit of damage. They had a 30 second story about it on KY3 here in Springvegas a couple of nights ago. Hoping to get back on the water this w/e and see for myself. If I do I will take pics and post them. Anyone heard anything about ramp conditions????? Hoping it will melt off enough today to open the roads and ramps. bigredbirdfan Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 The news report on KY3 was $.5 million dollars damage. Boat ownership sucks. Use a guide, rent a fishing boat or a pleasure boat. You will always be money ahead.
Whack'emGood Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Boat ownership sucks. Use a guide, rent a fishing boat or a pleasure boat. You will always be money ahead. Boat ownership is actually one of the best parts of fishing. There's nothing like having your own boat-- set up perfectly for your own personal likes and needs, and loaded with your own equipment and tackle at all times. After awhile, it becomes second nature to operate your own boat (like a second home) and it makes your fishing experience just that much more efficient and enjoyable. You just have to take care of it... The lesson here is, don't leave your boat in the water during the winter or when inclement weather is approaching. It is a bad deal for those folks who were affected by this storm... My prayers and well wishes go out to them. Most people aren't prepared for the TRUE cost of boat ownership that comes with the enjoyment (which you have and I have). I like you feel for these folks because their cost assciated with the amount of enjoyment just went way up (great big deductible and a damaged boat albeit repaired to sell in the future). I don't think getting a 50' cruiser out for the winter is an option for most folks.

You're right about not being able to take a 50' cruiser out of the lake for the Winter too... I don't know about you, but it would be hard for me to spend that kind of money on a boat and leave it down there all Winter!!
