creek wader Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Just a thought. If your putting in at Mari-Osa. I'd try running up to the lock and dam, and try for walleyes (sauger) below the dam. They ought to start schooling up there anytime. The whites should be there in the next few weeks. Especially if we get any rain, and the river begins to rise. Jigs with minnows usually work. Good Luck. ... Wader wader

Good Luck. ... Wader We hammered the whites and hybrids right after rifle season ended last year at the MariOsa. Ever since the new year began, it's been pretty pathetic up there for everything. I'm only about 40 minutes from there so I'll be fishing it quite a bit in the upcoming months so I'll try and let you guys know what's going on up there.
creek wader Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 CMAC, The river has been low lately. I wouldn't be going upstream in anything other than an aluminum river jon with a short shaft motor, or a jet boat. I'd be wary about using fiberglass. A lot of shallow water now. ... Seth, Keep us posted. .. Wader A glass boat will work fine if you stay above the 54 bridge (or even a mile below it). I fish below the dam a lot and the water is generally 10+ feet in most parts. The only thing to watch out for are the two islands on the north bank. They have a funny way of coming out of the dark. The whites and crappie will get hot below the dam in the few 3-5 weeks. A few warm rains and it's on! Angler At Law

I am thinking 3-5 weeks and you all will see a little 16 foot John boat braving the waters below the dam to have my chance at a few stringers full of those... Meantime I gotta buddy who wants me to catch a few trout to try out his new smoker.. So many fish, so little time... cricket.c21.com

When it is hot (Spring) a man can easily fill a 5 gal. buck with fish fillets. It is not odd (heck I would say almost common) to catch a limit of bluecats (5), crappie (30) and whites (15) in a day. The river supports lots of fish and a minnow will catch everything, but only keep what you need. Tight line. Angler At Law

The ramp is a mile down the first road on the Northwest side of the river. It's MDC owned. Angler At Law
Seth Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 The only places that I think would really require a jet are when you down past Lazy K campground and near Catrock. I've never paid much attention to the water depth since I run a jet, but there might be enough of a "channel" that you can run it with a prop also. I'll try and pay better attention next time I go down that far.
creek wader Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 The shallow water I was referring to is much farther downstream. From the lock and dam, east of Jeff. City, upstream, the water shallows quite a bit, until you get to at least Wardsville, maybe Tuscumbia. .... I waded the river several times late last fall. Near Painted Rock CA. I actually crossed several times, just downstream from Wardsville. Of course, all this relies on the release at Bagnell Dam. ... The put in, just below Bagnell Dam always has plenty of water and is usually the best fishing for whites, anyway. wader
