City, upstream, the water shallows quite a bit, until you get to at least Wardsville, maybe Tuscumbia. .... I waded the river several times late last fall. Near Painted Rock CA. I actually crossed several times, just downstream from Wardsville. Of course, all this relies on the release at Bagnell Dam. ... The put in, just below Bagnell Dam always has plenty of water and is usually the best fishing for whites, anyway. As far as I know, you can run from the MariOsa to the Missouri with a prop. There's some pretty shallow water, but if you can stay in the channel you are fine. I might be wrong though because I haven't actually made that run because I just put in at Bonnotts Mill if I want to fish near the Missouri. Wardsville has the shallow riffle up near the sand plant and I can't remember if it's passable with a prop or not when the water is off at Bagnell. Most everybody I know that runs the Osage a lot runs a jet. They don't have to worry about those shallow spots. If it aint sticking out of the water you can run it is how I look at it.

The area I know about, is upstream from the lock and dam. It starts to shallow of quickly. Many sand and gravel bars, with some chunk rock here and there, and a few trees. I've waded and kayaked, several sections of the river upstream from the lock and dam to Wardsville, the past several yrs. Of course it was late summer or fall. The river was at it's lows. The river can fluctuate 10' or better, depending on the release at Bagnell dam. .... From Tuscumbia on upstream I"m not sure, I have never boated it. ... Below Bagnell at the put in. It usually is quite good and when releasing water, is the place to be. ... Between now, and June, anytime the river is up or rising (due to dam release or rains), head for below the lock and dam or below Bagnell Dam. It's like ringing the dinner bell. Many different species make a run to these two spots when the river is rising, in the spring. I hope this helps. ... Wader wader

Isn't Wardsville the next public launch ramp? That's a ways up river. I wanted to go fishing so bad last night, but I just ran out of daylight so I just put in at 89 on the Gasconade and ran a few riffles. It was great to run the boat and not freeze my butt off.

rangerman Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 I was up at Bagnell Dam the weekend before last. I have fished up at bagnell for a number of years and have caught alot of hybrids up to 15 pounds amongst every over fish that swims up there. As of a couple of weeks ago the water tempature was 38 degrees. The crappie, kentuckies and everything for that matter was laying belly to the bottom. I ended up getting 3 keeper walleye and a couple of short ones, down a short way from the dam. It was a very, very light bite. Had to vertical jig for them. The crappie and kentuckies were caught in the same manner. I also managed to get a 6 and 15 pound blue. The water tempature is a little cold for the white bass and hybrids, just wait about another 3 weeks, the water should warm up and they should kick in. Over all I had a pretty good trip. I am probably going to go back up in a couple of days. Will let everyone know how it goes.

Seth Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Glad to hear you got in to the fish. A guy on another forum said he fished the Mari Osa yesterday and hammered the whites and hybrids. Looks like I might have to run up there this Saturday and freeze my rear off if the hybrids are there. Hopefully Bagnell will keep running some water.

Yea, Wardsville is the next public ramp. There is a few roads that dead end at the river, that I climb down the bank to wade or drag my yak in at. But this time of year you want to be below the lock and dam, So come up from Mari-Osa. ... Sounds like they're catching a few below Bagnell, I'd try there first. .. Good luck wader
