I had a funny feeling yesterday morning that I should hit the creek for a little while in the afternoon. I got off work at 3:15 and was at one of my favorite banks by 4:40. The wind was blowing hard out of the south and hitting the bank I was standing on(good sign). I made a few casts with the spinner bait, but only got one short halfhearted strike, so I switched to a jig and baby woolly hawgtail. I started getting bites right off. I caught six largemouth in 25 Min's. Only four were on the small side, 8 to 11 inches. Two were good sized. Sometimes they would hit it right after the cast when the bait hit the bottom. Other times I would let the bait sit for 5 to 10 seconds before moving it and they would pick it up and run with it.

When the bite slowed down I moved downstream to and old sunken tree with lots of limbs. I flipped out into the current and let the bait swing in beside the tree and after one hop I hooked a really nice fish that gave me quite a run through the tree limbs and wrapped up twice. Next cast was the same and hooked another nice fish which fought just as hard. I fished a little longer and caught a short smallmouth in the faster water below where the tree lies. All in all, a great hour and a half. I hope I can do it again today and maybe Thursday.

If fishing was easy it would be called catching.

Actually it has been slow around here so I have been getting off around 3:00 or 3:30. I was between Tipton Ford and Neosho. :D They are starting to turn on with this good weather. I'm going hit it again today.

Nice fish Buzz. Looks like they were biting pretty well. I need to make some time to get on the creek myself.

Looks like you did a little better then me. I floated with my cousin from Reddings Mill bridge to Wildcat park and we caught about 6 between the two of us. All on soft plastics...got one pretty good hit on a jig but other then that it wasn't producing for me.

Glad you caught some fish CDC.

Plastics have been the best so far for me. Crawdad and small creature baits in a green color has by far out produced any other bait. The same was for Chief and I on Sunday, catching a bunch of smallmouth and goggle-eye on 1/8 oz. jigs. The fish I have caught are definitely keying on smaller baits, 2 1/2 to 3 inch has worked the best. Chief caught most of his fish on a stand-up jig and I was rigging my jigs to put the craws in an upright defensive position. Some of the hits would be light and others would hammer the bait, either way when they grabbed it they would usually hold on. It's been fun catching 2 lb. fish on light tackle. I sort of got away from it ,but I'm back. It's always a blast catching a big smallmouth or largemouth on a spin rig.
