Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 6, 2009 Root Admin Posted March 6, 2009 I need help. I have a 90 minute digital recording of Babler's talk tonight. The audio file is almost a gig. I don't need to edit is as much as I do reduce the size of the file if at all possible. Anyone have any experience? I've tried to search but finding it hard to ask the right question in the right place.
Danoinark Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I have used this for putting a long audio file on cd. I haven't searched to see if it will also reduce them. http://www.yaosoft.com/ Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Danoinark Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Also if it can be reduced to a .wav file, I do believe they are smaller in size. Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Luke Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Take a look at Audacity. It's free, it's a pretty decent audio editor and can convert the audio to mp3 for you. --Luke
back2roots Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Audacity should work just fine. Edit out what you can and convert to an mp3 at the lowest sample rate you can accept. Since it is basically "spoken" word and not music, it doesn't need to be that high a rate. It is still going to be a pretty big file...you might consider storing it on a thumb drive versus a CD. Blessings, Bill If you liked the sound....Thank the engineer!
et84 Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Audacity should work just fine. Edit out what you can and convert to an mp3 at the lowest sample rate you can accept. Great idea. I'm an Electronic Arts Audio major at MSU. I use very high end editing software (Pro Tools, Audition, etc.) but Audacity is ALWAYS installed on all my machines. Like Luke said, it's FREE, and I can tell you that it is by far the best freeware out there for audio editing. .wav will give you the best audio quality because it's lossless (not compressed), but a 90 min. file would be HUGE!!! Either .mp3 or .aac would suit your needs perfectly. Export them @128 kbps, and you'll be good to go. Good luck to you, and I hope this has helped.
