Don Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 My opportunities are limited since I became a single parent of my teen daughters accompanied with spring time generation patterns. I called the dam and they said 1 gennie. The girls are in Springfield on spring break. I said what the heck. I hit the water at a quarter to ten. The water had shut off by then, It was the first time I had night fished in over a year. I hit the water on the old boat ramp below Chute 1 and I never left the flats. The weather was awesome, unseasonably warm for this time of year. I picked up 15 fish before two horns sounded off at midnight. 13 were off a variety of pine squirrels and 2 off egg sucking leeches. The biggest was 15 inches. All the while I had the river all to myself. I saw a fisherman at Chute 1 and heard some some splashing up there for awhile than he left. I saw a few red headlamps down rebar/gauntlet way. As I left, another guy on the parking lot said he did well on micro jigs after the moon came out from the clouds. What a great night. I'm so grateful. Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
laker67 Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Way to go Don! Glad you had an enjoyable trip. Night fishing is "always "good for the soul.
DoveTail Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 The warmer temps are nice for the evening fishing. Congrats on the catch.
Members gary2400 Posted March 8, 2009 Members Posted March 8, 2009 Hey Don that was me you talked to in the lot and thanks a bunch for helping me when I had to put the parts back on my truck. I hit the water about 7 pm just below #1 on the flats with 1 unit running and only picked up a handful on olive pine squirrels and PMS's. They shut the water off at 9 and that's when things really took off. I was just above you on the flats when you got there and then I moved up just above #1. When the moon came out bright I switched to a white micro jig and killed them. The biggest fish was about 18" and several in the 14" range. For about an hour it was a fish about every 3rd cast. I heard a lot of spashing from your direction as well. I then moved back down below #1 and they blew the 2 horns....darn. I was surprised there wasn't more people there as warm as it was. I tied my first patterns ever and caught fish....sweet....now I really am hooked. gary
tippett7 Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I was the guy up by outlet 1. It was a great night other than turning the water on and making me move to a different spot. Caught about an 18 in rainbow on a purple leech just down from outlet 1. I was stripping for a while with no hits and then I just let it swing in the current and hold it for 10 seconds and then wammo almost every other cast. It was the first of many nights I will be down there.
