The first fish looks alot like a Kentucky or Spotted Bass, dark spots along the lateral line and jaw does not extend past the eye. Did you feel a rough patch on his tongue? The shadow bass is called a goggle eye in these parts, it is the same. Looks like you had a good time, wish I could have joined you.

Nice thing about creeks and small rivers, they warm up fast on a nice day. Most ponds around here were ice covered on Wed.

Took my first wade trip out for smallies today, first spot was kinda slow just managed a few largemouth and a couple smallies.

Also caught this. It's a shadow bass, looks alot like a goggle eye.

Saw one of these for the first time this year.

Big fish of the day was this 14 incher. Fish really started to hit around noon and I caught a LOT of fish until the sun went down.

It was a great day.

Smallmouth sure are an amazingly fun fish to catch. Sometimes it makes me wonder why I don't fish for these more often than I do...

It's a largemouth. The markings are just dark as he probably came form clear water.

Way to go, siusaluki. I've got the fever bad. I'll be on the little streams first chance that I get. I went below bagnell dam the other day, because I had a co-worker with me, that wasn't prepared for wade fishing. Got to get away from those guys. ... wader
