Put in at Brown Bend at 10:00am. Started picking up crappie around 12:00pm around any sort of structure in 6ft. of water once the temperature hit 50 on the depth finder. A few on the docks and any sort of stick or stump. Had 6 keepers by 2:30pm and then had to head back home. All white crappie. 4 females and two males. Caught several other males that were short. Picked up 1 nice white bass that looked like she had already spawned. Purple and white two inch power grub on 1/16th oz. black jig head.

Thanks for the report... we're alittle short of LOZ traffic but hopefully this will change soon.

Greenwoodmo,

What part of the lake is Brown Bend on? We are getting ready to head up the lake to around the 38 mile marker within the next 6 or 7 days to give it a try. Have you heard any reports on that part of the lake? It should get going up there before too long. I was at Coffman's Beach ramp last Saturday giving my new boat and motor a breaking in. I talked to one crappie fisherman pulling out, who had done some good on small white jigs with a minnow 4 or 5 feet below a float. He was working between docks. The way he talked it was not necessarily around brush. Also, some bass fisherman were picking up some nice crappie on Rogues. If we can get some warm weather and warm rain, it should really break loose soon.

We put in a Coffman on Tuesday morning. It was cold all day. Fishing was slow for the most part. We covered alot of water and only got into one hot spot. I caught a limit and a half of 8in. crappie, but only had five keepers. Although they were 12-13 inch keepers :D . My dad had a limit of nice crappie (can't outfish the old man). The water was two to three degrees (46-47 degrees)colder than the last time we were out about two weeks ago and still pretty clear. All caught on the old standby, yellow tube with a green skirt under a float 4-5 foot deep around brush and docks. Like I said, we only got into one good spot, the rest were picked up one or two at a time, here and there.

Brown Bend is around mm61. Its on the south side of the lake. Its a MDC boat ramp. I had to take Hwy 7 east out of Warsaw and then DD North. I didn't fish with a float, just pitching and letting it sink 4 or 5 seconds and retrieve real slow. The fish would just suck it in like crappie do. Might try again this Saturday up on Truman but I think the water is a little colder.

Snaggers sure were tearin' up. Lots of big fish coming in.

Thanks Greenwoodmo. I've never fished that far up the lake. The farthest I've been up is the 55 mm. That's pretty good for early spawners. We took rt. J coming south from Versailles just before you get to Gravois Mills. It's been a few years and I don't remember the name of the resort that we launched at. Anyway it was about the 55mm.

Fished up the Gravois this afternoon. Only caught 7, but they were all big fish! 4 were holding VERY tight to cover in about 6' of water and 3 were actually off the bank in about 18" (depth finder said I was in 56 degree water?). With the warmer weather coming it's getting ready to rock! Also picked up 3 whites.

Knees,

Thanks for the report, keep them coming! I will be on LOZ this SAT/SUN crappie fishing and hope to have a good time. Say, have you tried fishing any docks yet? Last year around this time we absolutely wore the crappie out shooting jigs up under the docks. I would think they would be on the docks good by now, can you give me any feedback? Also, can you give me any details on what bait is working for you right now. Thanks.

I haven't tried the docks yet. I fished around woody cover in about 6' and chunk rock where it met pea gravel. The water was a little stained so I was using a "road runner head" with a black & chart. body. I'm going again tomorrow so I'll keep you posted.

Just got off LOZ water today (around 36-38 mm). Fished yesterday in the wind and had a great day. Many nice crappie. They were against windy, southern exposure banks feeding on shad and acting like they were spawning, but they weren't. No males dressed in black yet. Lots of shad remains when cleaned. Not an indication of spawning crappie, but the eggs are highly developed. Maybe one more week. Tube and twister tail jigs. Today was a lot prettier than yesterday, but not nearly as good. About half the catch of yesterday. Had to be around sticks today. Don't know about shooting docks. Should probably be good though. Water temp 54-58.
