Members momedic Posted March 10, 2009 Members Posted March 10, 2009 Hello everyone, im new to the sight. I found it while searching for tips onthe Osage & Gasconade. From what I've seen so far this is a good site, lots of seasoned vets willing to share their secrets. I just bought my boat back in Nov, its a 1752 F&F flat bottom with a 115 merc jet. I fish mostly on the Gasconade & wanna hit the Osage & perhaps the Lake. Although running a flat bottom on thebigger lakes intimidates me abit. Anyway greeting from St james. Joe
DD'sMC Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 welcome to the forum, Joe. You've come to the right place. We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. The two best times to go fishing? When it is raining and when it is not.

Bman Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Welcome Joe, St James is the nearest place to me for a trout fix. I have a jet boat also, any advise on jetting the Gasconade? Regards, Bruce The only good line is a tight line
Members Deerhunter2 Posted March 11, 2009 Members Posted March 11, 2009 I have ran the gasconade river for a long time in the area of Hwy 63 bridge by Vienna. You can put in just above the bridge at the conservation ramp and go for 5 or 6 miles down below the bridge. I use to put in at the Indian Springs Camp ground and run up to the bridge, but I believe they have closed it down now. There are a few spots that you have to pay attention because it does get shallow and one spot that has some logs sticking up high out of the water, but I have no problem running it at night with my 90hp when gigging. I would advise going in daylight the first time, and looking the riffles over, but after the first time or two, you should have no problem in that area. I have never went up river from the conservation ramp myself, but everyone I've talked to there says they run up river a long way with out any major problems.
ness Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Wilkommen, Joe. Don't know exactly what it is about St. James, but I've always liked it. Quaint little town, coupla good home style restaurants I like. And, like Brian, love the wine at St. James Winery, especially their Riesling and Norton. Made the mistake of coming down to fish one weekend years ago - - turned out to be opening day of deer season. Lead was flying everywhere. John
Members momedic Posted March 11, 2009 Author Members Posted March 11, 2009 Yeah I really like St James, Ive spent my fair share of time out on th meremac & @ the springs. That was when I was landlocked, now that I finally got a boat I have been going to the Gasconade mostly to Jerome & a few times to Bell Chutes. Personally I like the BC area but it easier to take the interstate to Jerome. My next outing is going to be on the Osage not sure where, Im thinking of putting in off of 54 near Osage Beach. I would also have to agree that we do have good wine in St James, several of the local wineries are worth checking out. I prefer the blackberry or school house white Joe
