Hello all! 1st post after lurking for a couple of years. Last summer, after > 20 yrs of no boat couldn't stand it anymore. Got a 96 Pro Team 18 with 96 Tracker (Merc) 75. Pretty nice rig for me since I'll probably use it half a dozen times/yr.

Question - will a hydofoil allow trimming and maybe reduce bounce in rough water? Now with almost any trimming at all it porpoises. (I can just barely, barely touch the trim or it starts bouncing.) I figure trimming might reduce fuel consumption. I've also heard that foils might help out in rough water. (Was at Big Cedar last Jul 4 week and it was pretty bad after about 10 AM.)

I've seen the "no drill" variety for about $130 and like the idea of no holes in the motor. If you guys think the foil would help and I get the 'RayXRIII should I get the "junior" - up to 75 hp; or "senior" 75+ ?

Thanks for your thoughts.

I saw a bunch of them at Bass Pro Catalog outlet a while back. I thought about one for my old tub but didn't know enough to buy or not.

A "whales tail" should help you out on your problem. I have a Lowe Sweet 16 deep vee that had the same problem. Mine is the bolt on style, so can't help you on the no drill type. Mine is a simple four bold attachment where I drilled out the stabilizer plate. It was easy to install and no noticeable difference in gas use. Just picked up the size for a 50 horse. If you watch BPS outlet store, you can sometimes get a bargain. One word of caution, watch bouncing in the wind about tree tops and stumps.

the first thing I always ask....what speed are you trimming at?

if your at wot, and you begin porpoising with any trim at all, your engine is at the correct heigth...then a dol-fin type stabizer may help some.

sounds to me that your engine is too high on the transom.
