Members nitro_fish Posted March 17, 2009 Members Posted March 17, 2009 I have an old High Standard Sport King 22. About every 4th shot i get a stove pipe. I took the gun apart and thourly cleaned and lubed it. Took it to the range and had same results. My friend said I needed to try CCI mini mags and that regular 22 longs werent powerful enough to push slide all the way open. Any thought or opinions on this problem?
jdmidwest Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Try the Mini Mags and see what happens. Some Bulk Box ammo is weaker and will not cycle some autos. There may be another problem though. Members nitro_fish Posted March 17, 2009 Author Members Posted March 17, 2009 Thanks I will give em a shot. Just before I heard about the mini mags I bought 4 bricks of 22s.....lol.
Members nitro_fish Posted March 17, 2009 Author Members Posted March 17, 2009 I dont know much about the working parts of a pistol. Maybe this is a stupid question, but here it goes. Is there a lighter spring i could try to make slide easier for shells to eject?
jdmidwest Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 It was designed to handle the recoil of the 22lr at the factory. There would be no options. Competitive shooters use lighter springs with lighter than industry standard average loads or hunters use heavier springs for more powerful loads in Centerfire Pistols. There really should be little variance in the power of factory 22lr, but there have been some lately that seem a little weaker. If it is a new pistol, it may take a few hundred rounds for the spring to set and really function to its best potential. I had a Walther P22 that did the same thing but the last time out at the range it finally started functioning right and feeding all loads perfect. It took about 300 rounds. SKMO Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Look through the following site, register and ask your question. I am positive you will get your answer: http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/ Sounds like a worn or rounded extractor, or maybe in fact you don't have it as clean and slick as you think. These are great guns and tend to function flawlessly. I doubt if you will have problems getting it to run smooth. If you are not picky try some different ammo. The current cheap bulk stuff is crap. Try a box of CCI Standard Veloctiy, if you have problems with that then you do in fact have a minor problem. Here's another good source: http://www.histandard.info/ Good luck, don't worry you have a great little handgun. Members nitro_fish Posted March 18, 2009 Author Members Posted March 18, 2009 The gun is at least 40 years old, I got it from my father. I gave it a good cleaning , but then again maybe I missed something. I really like the gun, and it is a lot cheaper to shoot. I have a feeling before I got the gun it hasnt been fired in about 40 years. I got a feeling i need to do a more intense cleaning and lube job. Thank you all for your help, and i will check out that web site.
Members nitro_fish Posted March 21, 2009 Author Members Posted March 21, 2009 Took my 22 to the range and tried some CCI mini mags in it. 200 rounds and only 1 stove pipe. Much better than it was.
