hoglaw Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Anyone heading out on Wednesday? I'm planning on leaving my office around 4, canoe trailer in tow, direct flight to twin bridges. I haven't had a solid report of water levels, but with the nice weather, I'm going to give it a go. If anyone was planning on hauling a boat out there on Wednesday and needs a fishing companion, I'd be happy to share gas and provide a couple of tasty beverages of your choice. Are you guys still catching active fish on rattle traps, or has anyone switched to fishing jig-head grubs?
Quillback Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 If it wasn't for work I would haul my boat down there. But if the weather cooperates this weekend I may give Indian Creek a shot.
Members coloradofly Posted March 17, 2009 Members Posted March 17, 2009 I might be heading to twin on wednesday, i will let you know tomorrow. I am heading that way tonight for a few hours to get a good handle on where the whites are at. Fished this weekend with little success.
Lshack2 Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I fished tonight above twin bridges for a little while before dark. The story from the anglers and boats I talked with was about the same... fish are spotty with more small males than anything else. Talked to one guy that had largemouth, whites, and a walleye all on a white crankbait. The water temp is on the rise and it could turn on most any time.... hoglaw Posted March 18, 2009 Author Posted March 18, 2009 Thanks Larry. Are there lots of big boats running around? I'm not sure what the water level is like since I haven't been that way in a couple of months. I imagine I'll be putting in at the ramp and heading downstream to the first long pool below the twin bridges hole.
Lshack2 Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I saw a couple of big boats that had come up from 412 Bridge but mostly smaller john type boats at twin bridges put in. I tried to go up from twin bridges and it is very skinny there. There a couple of gravel bars below twin that are skinny but passable... The water is pretty much at the level of three or four years ago.... hoglaw Posted March 18, 2009 Author Posted March 18, 2009 Excellent. Thanks for the news Larry. If anyone is going out there today, I'll be the guy getting blown around in a green canoe with no seats and way too much gear.
remi74 Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 I was out this week at a couple of locations - wading in. The water temp is still not optimal. One location was Richland Creek - the water has not been high enough for the white bass to even make their way into those spots folks are used to fishing. The water is still too cold for them to make their run. The other location - a secret for now - was almost frigid. I used to live in Goshen and am not an expert but there are several locations on the White and Richland that I am familiar with wading. At this time, with rains and the "off temps" with snow last week - I think the run will begin in April. One year, I was landing whites on Richland Creek in May. The white bass are still staging. If anyone wants to wade in or hit the Twin Briges with canoe or whatever, give me a holler! I have been very successful with a few custom fly fishing patterns - especially bead headed white woollie buggers. Simple white rooster tails have also done the trick. Some years, I have to make several trips out to become successful. I used to stop on the White on the way home and hit the creek early in the morning. Man, am I getting the itch. Good news is that I caught about 13 bass between 6 to 12 inches on one creek - had to fish slow - yellow chartruese rooster tail.
chub minnow Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Caught one decent sow just up from the bridge on Friday morning. Fished all afternoon and didn't have another bite.
hoglaw Posted March 23, 2009 Author Posted March 23, 2009 Anyone know Jerry Dudley? I work with another lawyer who said I needed to find him and I have a hunch he frequents this board.
