Bman Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Hi I am going fishing at montauk this weekend and I heard that bosco bait is a homemade doughbait that works great on trout. I just want to have good luck fishing and I am wondering what bosco bait is and if any1 knows the recipe for it, if so please post it. thx Uh, Oh, I'm gonna get myself in trouble around here if I do this... What is Bosco bait? It's the best there is! Thats what Ole' Bosco would reply when asked about the seven different formulas of bait he was killing them with. There was a topic started "Best Lures/Bait/Flies for Maramac Springs" in the forum under Meramec Spring Park, back around Sept of '07. Do a search, or page back to that topic, or http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7804 Now some folks didn't care for the old timer, example... If you were fishing some spot, but not having any luck he might just cut right in front of you and start whacking them! In his view you weren't fishing the hole right. There is a bait that is sold that is VERY similar. You can find it at D J's sporting goods and booze at the St James exit off 44. It's called Double D Trout bait. I would try the white and yellow colors, or what Bosco would call the "old stuff" and "the good old stuff"these were code words for the colors. It wasn't all about the bait, mostly the method. Use light line, 1 or 2 # test. a float and jig hooks of various sizes.Fold the bait around the jig hook like a taco, kinda like a grub body. You need to employ some fly fishing techniques, like geting the bait down, and getting a DRAG FREE DRIFT!!! hope this helps The only good line is a tight line

flyfishmaster Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 troutman11, The bait sux, just like the old SOB it is named after. So BMan, i will not go on my 3 page rant about that a-hole (not you troutman11, just Bosco) again like I did last year. Later, FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!!
Gavin Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Bosco Bait..best guess is ground up pellets and bacon grease...its was a dry mix so he could rip it off the hook, rebait, and repeat, till he had a wad of fish assembled and feeding, then he'd drift one through with w/o ripping the bait off the hook. Not sporting, but thats what the old fellow liked to do. The baits that Bman mentioned work really well. Cheers.
tippett7 Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Last I heard Bosco was in jail for keeping freezers full of fish. Multiple fines over the years were not enough. I met Boso when I was a kid at Meramac Springs. The best bait we ever used was: Take white bread and take off the crust. Take a can of sardines and drain the oil and save the oil. Mix the bread and the oil and walla. It is a simple bait but very effective.

Like gavin said...just get some food from the feeders at the raceways and grind it up good and fine and make dough bait from it. Just water mixed right with it is enouph to hold it together, some guys use a little flour...sure there are a gazillion ways to make dough bait but may as well use what they have been raised on. My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Avatar...mister brownie bm <><
Bman Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Should I use a weight or not and by jig hook you mean the hooks with a weighted head right? No extra weight, use weighted jig heads have some different sizes. The only good line is a tight line
