Members bvp81 Posted March 25, 2009 Members Posted March 25, 2009 I'm planning a June 09 vacation to the Table Rock Lake area and I'm looking to do a couple of days of fishing. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend any good guides for Taneycomo or Table Rock Lake or which would be a better place to fish this time of year? Any information will be helpful. Thanks. BVP81
tippett7 Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 In all fairness to Phil, as this is his site, I would recommend him or one of his guides. There are a lot of great guides in the Branson area. I would do a google search for taney guides and table rock guides and decide for yourself. Here are some of the most familiar: Lillies Landing Bill Babler River Run Outfitters Back Country Outfitters Chartered Waters Archers and Anglers Jeremy Hunt Leonard (Taney Night)
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 25, 2009 Root Admin Posted March 25, 2009 I could add another dozen guides. All depends on what you want to do- Spin Fly Fish Bait Fish Just catch fish... Then we can match you up with the best guide. You can call our office whenever you get your dates and we'll take care of it. 1-800-284-2196 If you want a drift boat experience/fly fishing, call River Run Outfitters. We do everything else.
bigredbirdfan Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 While on the subject of guiding. What is the best time of year to take a guided fly fishing trip?
tippett7 Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 October - November is the best time, so you can catch huge browns.
twosets Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 I would say that any time is a good time, if you learn the ropes now you could be ready for the big browns in the fall. A trip with a good guide like Bill Babler will put you miles ahead of where you were in what to use, where to use it and how to use it. Bill is very good on both lakes "This is not Nam. This is bowling. There are rules."
Members bvp81 Posted March 26, 2009 Author Members Posted March 26, 2009 Thanks for all the info. I'll be coming the first week of June and I'll have one or two of my friends with me. I would like to catch some brown trout or really I just want to catch some fish. I've never done any fly fishing, but I would be open to trying it, but I'm pretty experienced with a spinning reel. I'd really just like to find a guide who's rates are reasonable and who can have a good time with the guys (not liked getting hammered, but just a good guy who can have fun and still put us on fish). Thanks Guys. BVP81
bigredbirdfan Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 When it comes to guides get the best one on the water you can find. What the hell is another 20-30 dollars. Bill Babler and Bill Beck are the best. Period. Oh and good guides are so passionate about fishing that you probably won't have that much time to have adult beverages anyway. That is what the night time is for.
Leonard Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 The 3 guides you should look into for probably both lake (off the top of my head).. Bill Babler, Bill Beck, and Don House... I dont know if Eric Prey does both lakes or not... these 4 probably spend more time on both lakes then anyone I can think of... (right now).. Im sure you can work something out on hitting both lakes the same day... or one lake one day and the other the next... (Note: If you want to fish both lakes with the same guide.. Id call them to make sure you can get with them).. These guides full up pretty fast!! May and June fills up fast... http://www.taneycomonights.com
Micheal Kyle Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I would think that a guide that allows his clients to drink alcoholic beverages would have have a huge liability case on his hands. Accidents happen believe me I know this all to well. I had a bad boating accident while on a trip to Alaska glad I was not drinking when that happen, the turn out might have been way different. Just my 2 cents worth. Now I do guide on the Local tail waters and have been quite successful but we do have bad days just like every one else does, one day catch over a 100 fish the next day only catching 20 fish. I hear it so often go with them they catch a lot of fish if thats all you want then do that. What I try to do when I hire a guide is find one that will teach me something and that I can take and use back here at home. I had a trip out west about 6 years ago for 4 days he started rigging his rods up just like we fish here at home so we started a conversation about that, he said I was told to put you 2 on a bunch of fish, I laughed and said what does that teach us. Lets do something different so we can learn something that I can take back home and possibly use. So we did I now use this on trips and it has been very successful. I guess what I am saying find someone that is good at what they do be it warm water or cold water and that you can possibly learn from don't worry about how many fish you boat because that will come with time. The two guides that were mentioned here on this thread will do just that they are good. If you want to do a drift boat trip on the tail water there are two shops that do that mine and River Run. In May June the White in Arkansas will be red hot if you are going to be down for a few days you could fish it for one day it is the absolute best trout fishery in this area. So just a few thoughts good luck. Michael To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
