Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 2, 2006 Root Admin Posted April 2, 2006 Heard whites were being caught big time before the last rain. Must have been a local rain because the creek was "choc milk" last evening and this am... but I've been told after the water clears- hold on!! Whites at the 160 bridge and up. Great fly rodding. The run is on this week! Other reports???!?
Wayne SW/MO Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 The creek came up Friday, but the last really good run was on a high creek, if I remember right. They're probably waiting for everyone. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Bill Butts Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Beaver and Swan Creeks, both crystal clear at normal flows, are at their absolute best for White Bass when rain (especially a warm rain) has elevated their flow and the muddy water is beginning to clear but isn't as clear as normal. Timing is an important factor because they don't stay high or muddy very long, unless there are recurring rains that keep them running high. You should find that in murky to muddy water that brighter colored flies and lures with flash will usually catch the most fish, whereas in clear water neutral colors like gray and river minnow colors (tan, brown, olive) are best. I generally use smaller sizes in clear water, 1.5 to 2" long, but 2 to 4" in murky water. The added feature of a small spinner or rattle on any lure or fly in murky water is usually a positive factor, too. You will also find the fish to be a little more line or leader shy in the very clear streams. Four and six# line are usually appropriate for clear water, whereas 8# is adequate for murky water. Jeremy Rasnick Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Fished this afternoon down at beaver in the maiden hole. Wow, talk about the wind. We must have been crazy. Saw several fish caught by some fellers on the bank. We caught 7 Thumper Sow's and one black crappie (keeper). Used a + 1/4 oz rooster tail, when I could get the blade to spin and the others were caught on a variety of things. Smoke swimin minnow, husky jerk, etc. We didn't catch enough fish to establish a pattern but we caught the majority around 5 or 6 than we did right before dark. This was stange for Beaver Creek. I am assuming that we fished too low, Should have bank fished upstream................ Any Reports upstream?
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 3, 2006 Author Root Admin Posted April 3, 2006 How was the water? Cleared up?
crappiefisherman Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 jeremy, im interested in the black crappie catch>was it off the rock outcrop on the south side of creek? [ [
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 4, 2006 Author Root Admin Posted April 4, 2006 He told me he was as far up by boat as he could get- up by the maiden hole.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 5, 2006 Author Root Admin Posted April 5, 2006 Crappie in Beaver- the only crappie I've caught is off the bluff bank on the left at the first bend.
Members Drew711 Posted April 5, 2006 Members Posted April 5, 2006 I fished Beaver Creek on Sunday night and did very well, much further upstream from the maiden hole. My fishing partner caught one sow white that went over three pounds. We had our best luck on black swimmin' minnows and smaller, floating rogues, black and gold. We didn't want to fight the crowd at Swan Creek. Good thing, b/c we didn't catch any "small" fish. Not the best night numbers wise, but the quality of the fish made up for it
