drew03cmc
Sorry the ban will cover the Ozarks National Waterway. However, it will be in effect on Jacks Fork and Current. The PETA and Enviro Nazis goals are no lead period. Just wait and see. You seem to have a chip on your shoulder and I can't understand that, but why is this so hard to comprehend? This may have been released during the new administration, but was started YEARS ago, so get your facts right on that. Anyone who follows the conservation channels has seen this coming. You couldn't be more wrong here. PETA wants fishing and hunting banished due to the damage inflicted into the quarry, however, environazis are a different breed altogether. Like I said previously, the effects of lead are miniscule compared to the other things we could worry about controlling. I would rather have to find an alternative to lead than quit fishing. I would bet that everyone on this site feels the same way. All I ask is that the tackle companies find similarly priced materials to keep the prices where they are. I can pick up a dozen 1/80 jigheads for just over $2, but I can't imagine the price of the same size tung or tin heads. Andy
Chief Grey Bear
A few lead jig heads is the least of the enviromental problems. Just as an example, since, lets say, Table Rock was built, how many tons of lead do you think has been lost there? It may surprise you. But I really don't think you will be able to comprehend that since you think barnyard poultry and wild game birds have the same eating habits. That says a lot about who we are dealing with. I can definetly see a positive side to this though. There should be a lot less sinkers with hooks hanging from all the trees. If it cost a little more, some may be less apt to leave them. Or at least learn to cast better. Whack'emGood
Doesn't lead come from the ground? Yes-- so does crude oil and natural gas... but that doesn't make these things safe for humans or animals to ingest. ozark trout fisher
Why the hell would a dove or a duck think that lead tastes good? They do have taste buds and I have grown up around poultry my whole life and I can watch them purposle\y avoid a single piece of wheat or soy or rocks because they don't want to eat it. This is all bull sh*t too. The only reason they don't like lead is that wounded birds might get eaten by eagles or god forbid a red tail hawk that we see every 1000 sq feet these days eats a dead bird and gets sick. Back to the original point of my post which was this is another example of a goverment program with good intentions that strips away too many freedoms. Seriously taking away split shot sinkers and jigs? This sounds like COMMUNIST RUSSIA. Hell eventually CHINA might have more freedoms than us. And to Al's point why have unenforceable restrictions anyway. Probably be a $1000 fine and one of us lucky souls will get caught and screwed over this nonsense. I know that many people on here say I care about water fish and birds so I don't really mind. Then finally we get to well if you really care then you shouldn't catch the little fishies. Make no mistake people behind these efforts want fishing banned altogether this is just a step in that direction. Communist Russia, seriously dude? I don't agree with the lead ban but to say that we are like Communist Russia, and that soon China will have more freedoms than us is a ridiculous statement to make. I kinda makes me regret entering the topic at all. I don't think you really believe that, but I could be wrong.

As Taxi said a few months ago, all fishing would be banned in 2-years if you know who got in. Buzz
You don't wait for the market to produce a better product. You mandate date it so they produce what people don't want but get anyway. Lead is used because it is mallable. Maybe gold or silver will replace it Dude, I'm really not sure what you mean. ( Gold or Silver to replace it????) Lead is cheap and abundant, that's why it is used so much. There are alternatives. I have been fishing and have done my share of hunting for a very long time. I'm not necessarily a tree hugger either, but if it is going to happen it is going to happen. Why get all worked up???? Besides, like I said, I'm sure the products are already out there. There just isn't any real market for it right now, not here. IF this thing comes to pass you will be amazed at the alternatives that pop up. Fortunately I don't have to worry about that type of ban until it becomes a statewide ban, and I don't think that will happen. If fishing was easy it would be called catching. ozark trout fisher
Exactly Chief. A guy could go on all day with that reasoning eh? So, I got a question. It seems this rule is gonna happen despite how much I complain, so will this mean it is illegal to use such lures as panther martins, rooster tails, and mepp's spinners in the affected areas? I honestly don't know if these contain lead, or even if they did whether they would be illegal.
