trout fanatic
If the end result of this legislation means cleaner waterways-than I am all for it (seen it coming years ago with the steel shot mandate anyway). I doubt, however, that this will impact mining operations and other corporate entities that pollute our streams on a massive level all of the time. If we are really serious about our waterways than lets ban (impose fines/jail terms) for other foreign substances like aluminum (beer/soda cans), food wrappers, and cigarette/cigar butts. ozark trout fisher
Spot on there Joe. You can definitely see a line in the sand of who cares for the outdoors and want to pass it on to the next generation with minimum amount of impact. And those that claim to love the outdoors until a slight, momentary inconvenience that will improve the health of the environment is enacted to protect from man what it cannot protect itself. Brownie did put a nice twist on it though. I am sure that is exactly what they were thinking. I am really growing tired of you guy's low brow comments on this issue. Really. "Spot on there Joe. You can definitely see a line in the sand of who cares for the outdoors and want to pass it on to the next generation with minimum amount of impact." You know how much I hate it when people get nasty about these things, especially when they say that I don't care about the environment, or the next generation of fisherman. I refuse to argue with people that will tell me that I don't care about things that I care very deeply about. Fishing is basically what I live for, and for someone to tell me that I don't care about the outdoors angers beyond what I can say on this forum. I'm done arguing with you all about this. That is, unless you stop insulting me, and the other people that feel the way I do about this lead ban.
trout fanatic
Seems I recall a thread posted in the general chat forum about a fellow who was makin his own jigs out of lead (gasp). Apparently, that line in the sand is a pretty shallow one if you catch my drift (pun intended).

I am not changing my beliefs or how I present them because you have sensitive feelings. I am not saying I am going to stop using lead. But I do understand the reasoning behind it and will abide by it where it is banned. I have caught a hell of lot trout, bass and just about anything else on lead free crankbaits. Just how many waterways in this state are talking about anyway? One? Two? Less than .000001%* of the total river/stream milage in the state? * I made this figure up but, it looks about right. I'm not offended because I have sensitive feelings, I am because what you are saying about me is totally untrue. Not every argument has to get personal, and you don't seem to understand this. While I do disagree with your opinion about the lead ban, I don't have a problem with you having a different opinion from me. I do have a problem with you saying that I don't care about the outdoors. If you believe that, I can state without a slight second thought that you are absolutely wrong. I just disagree with this one regulation, and I have a right to do that without someone saying that I don't care about the outdoors, or the future generations of fisherman. There is no point in any longer arguing the lead ban, because you have made this topic about something else entirely with your insults towards anyone and everyone who disagrees with you. I have no problem with someone who disagrees with me, and I might even enjoy an argument with someone who does. But when it comes to nastiness, what is the point? Chief Grey Bear
Just as well. I think this thread is pretty well done anyway. If you felt singled out, that was not my intention. I sure didn't read it that way. I find it funny you didn't find BM's post as getting personal or nasty. But I guess that was because you were in agreement with his point of view. Since mine was the oppisite of his, it was I that was nasty and personal. I am perfectly willing to admit that the insults were flying both ways, I suppose it's only natural that I notice the ones that are on the opposing view point.I'll also admit that I do tend to overreact to these things, and take them more personally than they are intended to be. Maybe I should wait a while after reading a post, and then reply, and what I say might be a little more reasonable. :D :D
Chief Grey Bear
All is well OTF. I never took it personaly. I have on many occasions done just what you did, and sometimes still do. It is human nature. I understand and agree TF. But I will say I would much rather see aluminum on the waterways as I would glass. That is just ignorant in my opinion to have glass out there. I don't care how careful you think you are. Plus if you ban aluminum, you are banning a lot of canoes(which may not be a bad thing ) and jon boats. Before I get in trouble, I am not coming down on you. But there are others out there that in my opinion are not thinking when they take glass out there. Take a look next time you are out and try and find a gravel bar that does not have a broken piece of glass somewhere. It is dang near impossible.
