Members Sumday Posted April 2, 2009 Members Posted April 2, 2009 Just for fun buddies and I are talking who,s the best in MO my vote 1) hybrid 2) striper 3) white bass/smallmouth 4) brownies 5) LM /rainbow 6) walleye (but they taste the best)
Luke Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 What about carp? They may not be pretty, but they sure know how to fight! --Luke
Dutch Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Never caught a striper so I'll say hybrids. They have a bunch of hormones that others don't have.
Bman Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 If the silver bullets in Taney got as big as the Browns they would be awesome. I've never caught a big striper, so I guess I'm not qualified to comment. I'm not expert for sure, I wonder what the real experts on the board think though. I do know this, a pre- spawn male Brown in the 20 lb range is MEAN!!! The only good line is a tight line
creek wader Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 pound for pound, I'd say white bass and wipers, .. I've never caught a striper, though, ... I've caught a lot of smallies and rainbows, they don't fight near as hard, lb. for lb. .. at least in my opinion. wader
Members crappie crippler Posted April 3, 2009 Members Posted April 3, 2009 I'll take a 10" goggle eye any day. Lots of "muscle" in that compact body. Best creek fight there is! I LOVE THE SMELL OF FRESH GOGGLE EYE IN THE MORNING!
smallmouthjoe Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 I agree with Luke, where's the carp in this? They may not have the fastest runs or the most spectacular jumps, but they have more endurance than any other fish that swims in freshwater.
creek wader Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Yea, carp, too. Goggleye, green sunfish, Bluegill, even drum. Just figure any of these and the above mentioned fish each weighing a lb. I've caught many sturgeon in that range on the Missouri river. They have a way of digging in deep. Definately a fighter, too. I'd have to rule out a one lb. cat, bullhead, walleye, crappie, and largemouth. Personal opinion, only. wader
Kayser Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 For a 1lb fish (with the same exact tackle), it's probably a bluegill/redear, goggle eye/warmouth, white bass, smallmouth bass, carp, trout. But for the size of the average catch (with appropriate tackle), I'd have to say carp, catfish, trout, white bass, smallmouth/goggle eye, bluegill/redear. Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
crappiefisherman Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 The best fight I ever had was a 6 lb drum on my crappie pole and 2 lb test. [ [
