ozarkgunner Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Bagnell was SLOW this weekend. I picked up 5 Small crappie 4 small spots and one male white bass. my two buddies in the boat got one VERY small white and two catfish. The best fishing was in the very middle of the current by the dam. I saw nobody catching anything . Saw no snaggers with paddlefish. Tightlines. Angler At Law

ozarkgunner Posted April 6, 2009 Author Posted April 6, 2009 Thanks for the report Gunner. I'm gonna wait till this weather breaks before I head back down. No problem! I think the most valuable people on the forum are the ones who post when they catch nothing. Every bit of info helps! You personally are great and I thank you for all of your posts! Tight lines! Members Fisherfriend Posted April 6, 2009 Members Posted April 6, 2009 That was pretty much my experience Saturday also. Nobody I talked to was doing well. The only fish I saw being caught were were a few crappie just off the southwest bank. I managed to catch one largemouth, one crappie and one halfway decent hybrid bass. I want to know the phone number you call to order water dishcharge at the dam. Seems like early Saturday morning would have been a perfect time to let some water out. Maybe next weekend.
creek wader Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Fisherfriend, here's the #. .. 573-365-9205. Also, here's the site of the flow. They've been letting run hard for awhile. At the top of the site, you can change the # of days of to 60. So, you can compare the flow. .. http://waterdata.usgs.gov/mo/nwis/uv/?site...065,63160,00060 gunner, I agree with you. I'm always honest with my catch or non catch for that matter. Nothing worse than driving hrs. on a false report and getting stiffed. That's why I take pics and tell where I fished, what I used, and how others were doing. This is a great site. Many good people on this site. I believe everyone is telling the truth. ... wader wader

Members Fisherfriend Posted April 6, 2009 Members Posted April 6, 2009 Thanks Creek Wader, although somehow I suspect their water discharge priorities don't include my fishing schedule. It should, of course......... I've only been below the dam there a few times so I don't really have a lot to compare the water flow to. Never been there when the floodgates are open. I was reading 44-45° so I'm guessing it's a little cold yet. Any idea how big the hybrids get there? FYI - I'd like to think if I was going to lie about my fishing, I could do better than one bass, one crappie, one hybrid! LOL Thanks again for the info

Seth Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 There's always a good chance of catching hybrids over 10 lbs up there. We fish for hybrids at the MariOsa access way down river from Bagnell and have caught them up to 10 lbs this year. Last year one of my buddies got one a little over 12lbs and the year before another kid I know got a 16 pounder up there. Usually the average is 3-5 lbs though.

I've hooked some big birds below the dam when their running water but it can be kinda hairy in the boat if you anchor and the swift water makes a real big one hard to land if you know where I'm comin from..I have caught and seen some big ones come outta there though, no doubt there are some monsters in there. My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Avatar...mister brownie bm <><
