Just curious about the wading or shoreline fishing prospects at Truman, concerning whites and wipers. Never fished Truman and am wanting to learn. I usually stay up in the KC area or the Kansas lakes, but I've heard great things about Truman. Primarily after the wipers and whites.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Depends on where you are fishing. There is no way I'd try to wade below the Truman dam and that is where most of the reported action takes place.

I wade for whites and hybrids quite a bit on Truman in September and October. Fishing is not as good as it was 20 years ago, of course, but you can still catch some decent fish, especially on cloudy days with a strong southerly wind blowing across the shallow flats.

Ditto what Bill said. There are many points and shorelines that are wadeable and are easy to drive to. I started wading for whites there last fall (after my boat broke down) and a pair of hip waders were all I needed. If you find a point or flat gravel bank that the wind is blowing in on in the fall, especially if you have clouds, you will have a blast catching whites. I only hit it right for big ones once last fall, but I spent 3 days there late in the fall and my brother and I caught over 100 each day wading around Long Shoal. BTW I (am a confirmed bonehead) left my 8 wt on the bed cover of my buddy's pickup as we drove off from the swimming beach area in the state park campground. Needless to say it didnt stay on very long. When we finally realized what happened and looped back around to find it it could not be found. It wasnt a great rod or reel, but it was my first fly rod that my Dad gave me back when I was about 10, (almost 30 yrs). That's it in my avatar Anyway if someone might have found it I sure would like it back, or if someone found it and doesnt want to thats ok too, it doesnt owe me anything, just treat it right and maybe give it to another kid to cut his teeth on. :)

Im not a Cardinals fan, but I am a Cardinal. If you know me you know what that means.
