Members KentO Posted April 16, 2009 Author Members Posted April 16, 2009 I've tied these....some just simple strips of chamois, and a few with red chenille embedded....we'll see if they yield any results...
FishinCricket Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I think Bob Gaston's Fly Shop is closed. I'll be by-jiggered, it appears as though they are! Just tried the number and it was disconnected. Daggum! I've tied these....some just simple strips of chamois, and a few with red chenille embedded....we'll see if they yield any results... They have very similar flies for sale in the gift shop there at bennett.. cricket.c21.com
Geoff Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 i have a gut fly receipe, not sure if i want to spread it yet though. i will say its mostly marabou and has a couple varieties tied. its works extremely well, im thinking of switching the pattern up there and using some new material in place of the marabou, havent decided on it yet though "When you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all."

Geoff Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Hey, don't be holding out on us new guy.. We need photos! Details, explanations! BTW I recognize your signature, but can't putmy finger on who said it.. Wasn't it GOD? LOL haha yes you are correct details, well, the first summer i used it at montuak i caught probably 500 fish it...we were averaging 30-50 fish a weekend trip with it, and that was per person. of course we didnt keep em but it destroys them out there. its essentially a 1/32 ox jig head, peach marabou, couple strands of pearl flashabou, white marabou and tie off. you can dead drift them thru the water, sit them on the bottom, or jig em back. the fish just go nuts over em. sometimes if i cant get em to bite, i will cast directly at a group of fish and make sure it makes a very loud blunt impact on the water, they see the colors and shine and start to swarm, always gets em that way "When you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all."
Members JONBOY Posted June 12, 2009 Members Posted June 12, 2009 So has anybody tried out this pattern above to see if it works? Novice Fly fisher.
Members jkottwitz Posted August 10, 2009 Members Posted August 10, 2009 Just got back from bennett last friday. the old kapok flys work really well. With a spinning reel tie them on and then put some weight on about 18 to 24 inchs up and cast up stream and let it bump down stream. My six year old caught his first trout that way on the first cast within a few minutes. White 3" curly tail grubs work really well too. Last year I caught 15 in under 45 minutes at the suzie hole.
