ozarkgunner Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Anyone been to Bagnell lately? It should be getting hot. I fished up in Columbia this last weekend because it was so good, but now I am starting to get the itch to head down to Bagnell. Wader? Seth? anyone? FYI: I went to a new local pond in Columbia today for a hour and got skunked! Angler At Law

FYI: I went to a new local pond in Columbia today for a hour and got skunked! I'm debating on whether to head up there this weekend or not. First, it depends how I do turkey hunting this Saturday and second, I heard the hybrids were biting really well at the MariOsa again. I wish I knew how the crappie and blues were doing right now. If they are hot, I'd head to Bagnell in a heart beat.
creek wader Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 They ran water all day, yesterday. I got up early today, with visions of whites and crappie. Looked at the stream flow chart, and they quit generating at midnight. So, I'm going to the Maries river with my fly rod. Plan B. ... Keep watching the stream flow. If they start generating, they should be there. Warm late April days with major generation = fish. ... wader wader

Seth Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 It shows Bagnell is still generation 25k CFS at the darn and 31k at the MariOsa. What chart were you looking at?
creek wader Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Seth. I'm probably using the same graph as you....: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/mo/nwis/uv/?site...065,63160,00060 See that drop on the graph, today. I've been down there several times already this year, when the generation starts dropping and the river level drops, (see bottom of the page). Today, I would of been there at the bottom of the drop. The fishing just dies, as the river level starts dropping. If it's rising, it starts to pick up. At least that's what I've witnessed so far. I've been there once when it was rising and faired well. I was there once when it was peaking and the bite was the hottest, so far this year. I was there twice when it was falling and caught nothing. Once when there was no generation and didn't get a hit. That's just my personal experience, I could be wrong. Maybe it was just a little early in the year. Maybe it was something else. If you fish it let me know how you do. I'm all ears. Let me know how the graph reads when your down there, also. (check the days flow, when you get back). Maybe we can figure out a pattern. I could be way off. wader
creek wader Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Seth, Also, I wasn't sure how much it was going to drop today. I saw it falling in the morning. I didn't want to make the drive and have the river drop 10 ft.or more. If it was rising or level. I would of made the trip. ..wader wader

creek wader Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 No, Jefferson City. My work takes me to Jeff, every couple of days. I usually get a few hrs. of free time. Unfortunately, my free time varies, sometimes it's at night. So, then I got to wait till my next trip, down. So, I try to make the best use of my free time. .. wader wader
Seth Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Where's my dummy hat. I didn't think about the water level dropping. For some reason I was thinking it would just drop instantly when they shut down the turbines. I've had the same experience as you with just about any tailwater I've fished. Dropping water makes for crappy fishing and rising is great for fishing.....most of the time. I broke my transducer again so I won't have the graph going until I buy a new one. I'll order one here shortly, but it won't be in by this weekend I do know that.
