Members jnorman Posted April 23, 2009 Members Posted April 23, 2009 Went below the dam yesterday. We got there about 11 and went to the west side. The water was up and moving pretty good (C of E said 16500 cf but I think they were releasing more than that). We started off about half way down the bank. Caught a few small whites. We then moved up against the fence where they laid down all that knew rip rap. Caught a couple hybrid there but not a consistent bite so we decided to try the other side. We didn't have much luck over their either. Mainly a lot of small crappie being pulled in on that side. About 5 we decided to head back to the other side up against the fence. As soon as we got there we started pulling in decent sized hybrids. We fished there until sunset and had a total of 11 hybrids, most in the 3-4 pound range with the largest being 6 pounds. We probably caught closer to 20 total but we threw the smaller ones back. We were using glow XL slab hunters with 3/8 oz leadheads and drift fishing them about 10 ft out from the shore. I knew it was a good trip when I woke up this morning with a sore arm With as warm as its supposed to be this week that water temp is going to shoot up pretty fast. Hopefully, the hybrids will really turn on then. Definitely will have to make another trip ASAP. Good luck and happy fishing! The best time to fish is when it's raining . . . and when it's not!

Members jnorman Posted April 25, 2009 Author Members Posted April 25, 2009 A lot of times if they aren't running any water that is all you will catch up there close to the fence. But when water is running, that is a great place to be. Sometimes I have found though that if they are running to much water it is better to move down the bank aways. jnorman anyone catching Catfish?I have to go up there for a meeting the second, then have to go to Springfield to see Larry the Cable Guy so I probably won't get no fishing done. oneshot There weren't to many out catfishing, but the few that were I saw pull in some in the 5-10 pound range probably. But they were on the east side and we didn't spend much time over there so I'm not sure how sucessful they were. The best time to fish is when it's raining . . . and when it's not!
emjay Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 so when is the gage height usually the best for fishing at the fence? when i went, it seemed to flow pretty fast so i moved down river and thats where everyone was catching. one guy pulled out some pretty big hybrids.
