duckydoty Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Got on the shoal pretty early and caught huge numbers of small males. Did get to put 8 big males on a stringer though. There are some bonus fish up on the shoal to play with right now. Big gar are up in there spawning. Caught 2 of them about 4 1/2 foot long on the flyrod this morning. They sure are fun to fight. Heard there were some big sows caught last night down at Blunk. Waiting for DD'sMC to get home from work and tying a few more grey and white clousers up then heading back down for the evening bite. Sam Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I took my 10 y.o. granddaughter white bass fishing there today and we had a ball, with easy limits of (mostly) small males. They're everywhere - and we didn't even go up to Taylor Shoals and Blunk Hole. We put in at McCord Bend and fished up to the ramp at the end of Blunk Road. Apparently all those males still think there's a bunch of sows coming up. I'm afraid it's going to be over quick, though. Starting tomorrow there's heavy rain predicted all week. By the time the river gets back down and fishable, the spawn may be over.
Predator1 Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Im thinkn bout hittn it tuesday after work. Provided its not raining and the water is still somewhat clear like it was to day. Congrats on all the fish. My son and I were down there today. Just got done cleaning fish. We had some real nice males too. Ran out of White Maribouu jigs 1/8 oz. We only kept 20 nice males and one channel cat bout a pound. There was white bass following him, trying to get the Maribou jig out of his lip. Every time I realed in white bass, there were 5-7 more with it. Great day. Hope nobody stayed on the river tonight with that storm coming in. Good night and God Bless.
Members LEBHUNTFISH Posted April 27, 2009 Members Posted April 27, 2009 where is taylor shoals and how do you get there? Im new to this area and love to fish for white bass. A bad day fishing or hunting is better than a good day at work anytime!
duckydoty Posted April 27, 2009 Author Posted April 27, 2009 Caught a few on Taylor Shoals this morning, but it is winding down fast. Only 3 big males and 10 or 15 small ones. I did see a guy catch 2 spawned out females above the shoals. Taylor Shoals is south of Galena or down river from Galena. Take 248 up the hill out of Galena. The 2nd road on the Left is Blunk Road. Go down Blunk Road and there is a boat launch there. Go up river about 1/2 mile from there to the big bend. That is Taylor Shoals. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Predator1 Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 The weather man said no rain tomorrow. I get off work at 3:30pm. I should be there at bunk road before 4pm. Hope ya'll saved a few for me. I will be in a 14' green flat bottom with the old 15 envinrude. Yesterday I used my old rotors off my van as an anchor so we could stay in the current. Those things sure did pay for theirselves a second time. Anybody seen any spoonbill anywhere on the james?
zander Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Just got back from Taylor Shoals. I caught a couple of Kentuckies and a couple of male whites on silver sliders. There were a lot of white bass still swimming around, but they just weren't hitting on the slow side of the bend. There were a few fellows along the mud bank opposite of the point and they were doing pretty good with white and purple swimming minnows. On the way back to my truck I talked to others everybody had 3-5 bass with those around Blunk Hole being good sized in general. Only saw one sow caught, still full of eggs. It was a real pretty place. I probably could have done better if I would have brought my waders and boots down the muddy path to Taylor Shoals instead of leaving them in my truck.
duckydoty Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 I got some reports last night that some big sows were caught at Blunk yesterday afternoon also. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
